Tom Hardy has undoubtedly been the breakout star of this year starring in a number of critically acclaimed films and he has cemented himself as a force to really be reckoned with.

We take a look at some of his most memorable performances over the last year years - and boy have there been some great ones.

- Rocknrolla (2008)

Gerard Butler (300), Tom Hardy, Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) and Thandie Newton (Run, Fat Boy, Run) star in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels writer and director Guy Ritchie's Rocknrolla.

When a Russian mobster orchestrates a crooked land deal, millions of dollars are up for grabs, drawing in the entire London underworld into a feeding frenzy at a time when the old criminal regime is quickly losing turf to a wealthy foreign mob.

Rocknrolla is a fast paced crime movie that the best of British talent come together in what is an action packed and funny movie.

- Bronson (2008)

The film follows the life of notorious prisoner Michael Gordon Peterson, who was renamed Charles Bronson by his fight promoter.

Born into a respectable middle-class family, Peterson would nevertheless become one of the United Kingdom's most dangerous criminals, and is known for having spent almost his entire adult life in solitary confinement.

Bronson is narrated with humour, blurring the line between blurring the line between comedy and horror.

This is a once in a career role for Hardy and he delivers a truly knockout performance in a movie that is not easily forgotten.

This role really showed off the potential that he had as an actor as he is mesmerising from start to finish.

- Inception (2010)

Hardy teamed up with Leonardo DiCaprio in this contemporary science fiction action film set "within the architecture of the mind.

Written, directed and produced by Oscar® and Golden Globe nominee Christopher Nolan who once again delivered a movie that mixed a knock out script with visuals that were stunning.

Shooting in London, Paris, Tangiers, Calgary and Los Angeles, Nolan's mind-bending film also stars Academy Award® winners Michael Caine and Marion Cotillard, in addition to Juno's Ellen Page, Batman Begins' Cillian Murphy and Oscar® nominees Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai), Tom Berenger (Platoon).

This is the most original and exhilarating movies yo hit the big screen in many a year as, once again, Nolan's complex narrative and plot tests the audience.

Inception is a maze from the off as Nolan adds layer upon layer to the story as the audience takes a trip into a dream world and an exploration of the subconscious.

- Warrior (2011)

Warrior is an American sports drama film directed by Gavin O'Connor and starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, and Nick Nolte.

Warrior tells the story of two estranged brothers entering a mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament and deals with the brothers' struggling relationship with each other and with their father.

Hardy is simply superb in the central role of Tommy - a man who is scarred by the betrayals and difficulties of he past - and he delivers a very raw and emotional performance.

The fight scenes in the movie really are brutal and none more so than at the end when Hardy takes on his on-screen bother Joel Edgerton.

- Tinker Tailor Solider Spy (2011)

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a Anglo-French espionage film directed by Tomas Alfredson, from a screenplay written by Bridget O'Connor and Peter Straughan based on the 1974 novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré.

The film stars Gary Oldman as George Smiley, and co-stars Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt, Toby Jones, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ciarán Hinds.

Set in London in the early 1970s, the story follows the hunt for a Soviet double agent at the top of the British secret service.

Tinker Tailor Solider Spy was one of the best movies of 2011 and deserved all of the praise that cam its way.

It was a movie that really did use the cast well and everyone delivers a great performance.

- The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

This summer saw the actor take on the role of Bane in the latest Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.

Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham's finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

Hardy was is one of the new faces on the cast list as he brings the character of Bane to life. The actor has piled on the pounds for the role and he really is a beast of a character.

The actor dominates all scenes that he is in and he has a real presence throughout the entire movie, whether he is in the scene or not.
