Thomas Turgoose returns to the big screen this week with his latest movie The Scouting Book For Boys.
The eighteen year old actor shot to fame in Shane Meadows' This Is England and he still remains one of the exciting acting talents to keep and eye on in the coming years.
It was Shane Meadows that discovered Thomas Turgoose at the tender of age of thirteen at a youth club in Grimsby for youngsters with 'school attendance issues', he had also been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder.
But Meadows is famed for uncovering acting talent and he took a chance on this young boy, who had had no acting training or experience prior to This Is England.
The movie saw him take on the role of Shaun, growing up in England in 1983. He is a lonely boy growing up in a grim coastal town in northern England, whose father died fighting in the Falklands War.
Over the course of the summer holiday he befriends a group of local skinheads. With his pent-up rage and frustration, Shaun finds exactly what he needs in the gang mischief, mayhem and brotherhood.
He also meets the volatile and boorish Combo, an older skinhead who sees himself in Shaun. Adopting Shaun as his protege, Combo leads the gang down a hate spewing path that culminates in an irreversible act of violence.
And this chance paid off as the young actor won widespread acclaim, appearing in almost every scene.
He went on to pick up a British Independent Film Awards as Most Promising Newcomer, he was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a British Independent Film, and it looked like a new acting talent had been uncovered.
Since his breakthrough the young actor has juggled TV and movie roles, he went on to play Dizzy in the TV show The Innocence Project before it was axed after eight episodes.
Two years after This Is England he was back on the big screen, once again under the wing of Meadow, with Somers Town.
The movie followed two teenagers, both newcomers to London, forge an unlikely friendship over the course of a hot summer.
Tomo is a runaway from Nottingham; Marek lives in the district of Somers Town, between King's Cross and Euston stations, where his dad is working on a new rail link.
The boys are both infatuated with the same girl, and pass their days bickering over which of them loves her the most.
Finding himself homeless, Tomo surreptitiously moves into Marek's bedroom - but it's only a matter of time before Marek's dad discovers what's going on...
Once again Meadows had produced another critically acclaimed movie but the film's strongest asset is it's two young leading men, in the form of Turgoose and Piotr Jagiello.
But their friendship is warm and genuine and it drives the movie along.
Turgoose went on to appear in Eden Lake but The Scouting Book for Boys is his first big screen appearance since the thriller back in 2008.
The Scouting Book for Boys is directed by Tom Harper, who worked on TV show Misfits, and sees Turgoose take on the role of David.
When David discovers that his best friend Emily is being forced to leave their caravan park home, he agrees to help her to run away.
But after their plan starts to unravel, secrets come to light that transform his life in ways he never imagined.
The young actor continues to mix and match his work as he returns to TV for his next project Cast Offs.
The Scouting Book For Boys is released 19th March.
