The Worst No 1: Evan Almighty
Here we are at the end of our two week ramble down the memory lane of 2007 cinema in a bid to discover the worst movie of this year.It’s ‘comedy’ Evan Almighty that is the proud owner of the title Worst Film of 2007.It’s hard to believe how this film was ever given the nod to move into production surely alarm bells must have rung when neither Jim Carrey or Jennifer Aniston signed up to reprise their role – a very good move on both parts I must say.So stepping up to take the place of Carrey is The 40 year Old Virgin actor and funny man Steve Carrell.Newly elected congressman Evan Baxter (Steve Carrell) is visited by God (Morgan Freeman) after Baxter prays for help in changing the world.The Big Man tells Baxter to build an ark. Baxter resists until animals begin following him, and yes they come in pairs, and Baxter begins to look like Noah.
He begins to work on the ark which puts a strain on his family and his career.
Bearing in mind that this is the most expensive comedy ever made, with a rumoured budget of nearly $200 million, it has managed to fail on every level.
The most expensive comedy ever made is simply not funny with even comedy veteran John Goodman unable to raise a laugh from this truly dire script.
Moreover the CGI flood effects are appalling, looking like they were last minute and lobbed together on a laptop which begs the question where was this £200 million actually spent.
It’s hard to believe why Carell an Morgan Freeman, who returns as God, returned in this truly awful movie that should be avoided like the plague.
