The Time Traveler's Wife
Parking itself firmly in the present, film fans have proved that 1985 classic Back to the Future is years ahead of the rest, voting Robert Zemeckis' box office hit the UK's Ultimate Time-Travel Movie.
As the film adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's bestselling book The Time Traveler's Wife takes to our screens LoveFilm asked over 1,000 members to vote for their all time favourite time-travel movie.
In pole position was sci-fi adventure Back to the Future, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, which topped the chart with a futuristic 40 per cent of the vote.
Saying "hasta la vista" to the competition, Arnold Schwarzenegger came back from the future in cult classic The Terminator to claim second place with 12 per cent of the vote, whilst Jake Gyllenhaal's time defying hallucinations in Donnie Darko landed the thriller in third position (10 per cent).
Every minute counts for Bruce Willis in the critically acclaimed 12 Monkeys which came in fourth (nine percent), and settling in at fifth place The Butterfly Effect's Ashton Kutcher proved that messing with the past is never a good thing (seven per cent).
Lightening the mood, an ingenious time-travelling phone booth catapulted Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure into sixth spot with six per cent of the vote, whilst Franklin J. Schaffner's original 1968 Planet of the Apes crash-landed in at seventh place (five per cent).
Spanning several time periods and containing many time-holes, Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits polled three per cent of votes.
Following closely behind and bringing us back into the 21st Century, 2006's Déjà Vu saw Denzel Washington defying the space-time continuum in a government fight against terrorism (two per cent).
With the clock ticking, the final film to bring back the past is the remake of H.G Wells' classic tale, The Time Machine, starring Guy Pearce (one per cent).
