Ryan Phillippe has enjoyed a career that has spanned almost twenty years - mixing and matching his roles as he has gone along.
Yes Phillippe has not been one to stick to a particular genre as he has moved from period films to war movies from comedy to drama and this week he returns to the big screen.
The actor teams up with Matthew McConaughey and director Brad Furman for the big screen adaptation of Michael Connelly's novel The Lincoln Lawyer.
Phillippe kicked off his career in TV - appearing in One Life to Live before going onto the likes of Matlock.
But it wasn't long before movies came calling and he made his big screen debut in 1995 in Crimson Tide followed by White Squall and Nowhere.
But his breakthrough role came in 1997 when he starred in I Know What You Did Last Summer - he followed this up two years later with Cruel Intentions to really put himself on the map.
But Phillippe was not content in staying with the teen movie and he took a very different path in 2001 as he was part of the ensemble cast of Gosford Park.
He took on the role of Henry Denton alongside the likes of Maggie Smith, Kristen Scott Thomas and Helen Mirren.
The movie was a critical hit and went on to be nominated for seven Academy Awards - as well as picking up a few Best Ensemble Cast gongs along the way.
For the next couple of years he continued to take on supporting roles with the likes of Igby Goes Down and Crash - showing off his versatility.
Crash was a monster critical hit when it was released back in 2004 and went on to scoop the Best Picture Oscar - seeing off the challenge from Brokeback Mountain.
2006 brought him a major lead role as he teamed up with Clint Eastwood for Flags of Out Fathers, which was based on the book by James Bradley and Ron Powers.
Phillippe took on the role of John Bradley, son of the author, alongside Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach and Barry Pepper.
The movie followed the life stories of the six men who raised the flag at The Battle of Iwo Jima, a turning point in WWII.
The movie was met well by the critics but sadly didn't get the recognition at the box office that it deserved.
Phillippe would return to the military movie a couple of years later when he starred in Stop-Loss, which was directed by Kimberly Pierce.
Stop-Loss was released amongst a whole host of war on terror movies but this film looked at the effect that the war had on the soldiers rather then concentrating on the fighting.
He has mixed and matched his roles on the last couple of years with Franklyn, The Bang Bang Club and comedy McGruber.
But this week he is back in The Lincoln Lawyer as a Beverly Hill playboy who is accused of rape attempted murder.
And the actor has plenty of movies in the pipeline as he has already completed work on Setup, which is directed by Mike Gunther and also stars Bruce Willis.
He has also been linked to Tlatelolco: Mexico 68 and Chronicle.
The Lincoln Lawyer is released 18th March.
