Eva Green

Eva Green

Eva Green may have made her first big screen appearance in 2003 but it was her role alongside Daniel Craig in Casino Royale.

The actress began her career in the theatre after studying at the Eva St. Paul Drama School in Paris before going on to the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

She was discovered in 2002 by filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci and asked her to star in his 2003 movie The Dreamers.

The tumultuous political landscape of Paris in 1968 serves as the backdrop for a tale about three young cineastes who are drawn together through their passion for film.

Matthew, an American exchange student, pursuing his education abroad in Paris, becomes friends with a French brother and sister duo, named Theo and Isabelle, who share a common love of the cinema.

While the May 1968 Paris student riots, which eventually shut down most of the French government, are happening around them, the three friends develop a relationship unlike anything Matthew has ever experienced, or will ever encounter again.

The movie was a critical hit and she moved on to star in Arsène Lupin but it wasn't long before Hollywood came calling.

And her first Hollywood movie came in the form of Kingdom of Heaven which saw her starring alongside Orlando Bloom, Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis and Edward Norton.

During the Crusades a blacksmith named Balian has lost his family and nearly his faith. The religious wars raging in the far-off Holy Land seem remote to him, yet he is pulled into that immense drama.

Amid the pageantry and intrigues of medieval Jerusalem he falls in love, grows into a leader, and ultimately uses all his courage and skill to defend the city against staggering odds.

Despite it's stellar cast the movie was met with mixed to poor reviews by the critics and Orlando Bloom's performance was not met well.

Despite this set back it was Casino Royale that propelled the actress to superstardom as she starred alongside Daniel Craig who was taking on the mantle of 007 for the very first time.

The film was surrounded in controversy months before it hit the big screen but Casino Royale silenced all of the critics and doubters when it was released in 2006.

The film was a big critical success and went on to be the biggest grossing Bond movie of all time taking over $594 at the global box office.

For her performance the actress picked up the Orange Rising Star Award at the Baftas, which was voted for by the general public.

And the actress hasn't looked back as she has gone on to star in The Golden Compass and Franklyn.

She returns to the big screen this week with drama Cracks. Within the confines of a strict, all-girls English boarding school (circa 1930s), a clique students participate on the swim team not only to pass the time, but to be close to their swimming instructor, the enigmatic, yet charismatic, Miss G (Green).

While Miss G originally encourages their idolization and crack (crush) on her, the teachers attention is quickly focused on the arrival of an exotic and beautiful Spanish foreign pupil, Fiamma (María Valverde).

As the new girl rebuffs her classmates, and further rejects Miss G's interest, her teammates begin to grow jealous of Miss Gs fascination with Fiamma, and resent the latters distain of their instructor, accumulating in the inexplicable disappearance of Fiamma.

And 2010 looks set to be a busy year for the actress with Womb and The Last Word, which she is currently filming.

Cracks is released 4th December.
