Film: The Help
Director: Tate Taylor
Cast: Viola Davis, Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jessica Chastain, Octavia L. Spencer
Synopsis: An aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960's decides to write a book detailing the African American Maid's point of view on the White families they work for, and their hardships they go through on a day to day basis.
Along the way, unlikely friendships are forged and a new sisterhood emerges, but not before everyone in town has a thing or two to say themselves when they become unwittingly - and unwillingly - caught up in the changing times.
Critics: “But most of all The Help is an actors movie and Davis' performance in particular should be remembered when the awards season rolls around.” - FemaleFirst
“The Help not only has its cake and eats it, it makes short work of the fried chicken, grits and sweet potato pie, too.” - Daily Telegraph
“In dramatic terms it works a treat.” - Guardian
Award/Nominations: The movie won Best Picture at the African American Film Critics Association Awards as well as Best Ensemble at the Hollywood Film Festival & National Board of Review.
The movie was also nominated for Best Picture at the Satellite Awards, Phoenix Film Critics Society Awards, Houston Film Critics Society Awards & Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards
