Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

When Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone was released back in 2001, yes it really was eight years ago, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint became three of the most famous teenage actors in the world.

This week the trio will be reprising their roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione for the fifth time but as the end of the Harry Potter saga draws nearer this these are the roles that they will always be remembered for.

Deathly Hallows is set to be split into two movies so there are going to be Potter releases for the next couple of years but what will happen to them after that?

It seems that Daniel Radcliffe is the most cursed of the three young actors as he will forever be the boy wizard, bit like Elijah Wood as Frodo.

For a couple of years now Radcliffe, who is still only nineteen, is trying to shake off the clean cut Harry Potter image with some success.

He made the shocking move into theatre, and while that's not particularly odd it was the type of role that raised a few eyebrows.

His part in Equus required him to get his kit off for one scene as the stable boy obsessed with horses. The advanced ticket sales for the show topped two million and was considered a hit.

Away from Potter Daniel Radcliffe has only made one other venture onto the big screen in The December Boys in 2007. It was met with mixed reviews and failed to make back it's budget.

But he has also worked in television starring alongside David Haig and Kim Cattrall in My Boy Jack last year.

Radcliffe's success depends on how far he can move away from the tag that comes with such a high profile set of movies that he is so closely associated with.

Will Emma Watson leave acting behind, will she continue? This seems to be the question on everyone's lips at the moment as she has is all set to attend university in America later this year.

Having been cast with no previous acting experience under her belt this is the role that has dominated her career so far.

Away from Hermione the young actress, like her co-star, moved into television with Ballet Shoes, a film for BBC One. She also lent her voice to the character of Princess Pea in 2008's The Tale of Despereaux.

Away from the big screen Watson has become a fashion icon and of major interest to fashion houses when she became the face of Burberry.

She will also leave her acting roles behind for a while as she goes to Yale University to study English.

Finally Rupert Grint shot to fame as Ron Weasly back in 2001, Potter's sidekick, and will possibly the one who will find it easiest to shake of the role that made his famous.

Away from the Potter movies it's Grint that has done the most work with roles in the likes of Thunderpants and Cherrybomb.

But the role that him real acclaim came in 2006 when he starred alomgside Julie Walters in Driving Lessons.

But the Harry Potter franchise begins drawing to a close next year with the first part of Deathly Hallows, with the second film coming in 2011.

The trio of stars look as if they will find success away from these roles but for how long this success can be substained remians to be seen.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is out now.
