The year is 1912, and the daring, audacious journalist Adele Blanc-Sec (Louise Bourgoin) has just returned to Paris from Egypt, where her quest to revive a mummy has gone badly awry.
She is desperate to save her sister, currently lying in a coma, and so seeks out Professor Esperandieu (Jacky Nercessian), a doctor with troubles of his own.
While testing his secret telepathic powers at the Museum of Natural History, the professor has inadvertently hatched a 136-million-year-old pterodactyl egg, unleashing an ancient menace on the city.
How, then, is Adele to get him to pay attention to her problems?
An adventure featuring creepy Egyptian tombs, marauding mummies and a fearsome prehistoric monster, Luc Besson's zany fantasy is impossibly entertaining, and a great example of just how much a visionary director with a wild imagination can achieve.
Starring: Louise Bourgoin, Mathieu Almaric, Gilles Lellouche, Jacky Nercessian, Philippe Nahon
The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adele Blanc-sec is released 22nd April.
