The Devil's Double

The Devil's Double

Guns, and lots of em’ has been the mantra for many a movie whilbe others rely on a really big or unique weapon to get the viewers attention.

In the upcoming film The Devil’s Double they take the 'more is more' approach in the shape of Uday Hussein’s (Dominic Cooper) personal gun stash.

The Devil’s Double is set in Bagdad, 1987 and based on an unbelievable true story. When Army Lieutenant Latif Yahia (Dominic Cooper) is summoned to Saddam Hussein’s decadent palace with an impossible proposition - become Uday's (Dominic Cooper) body double or have his family condemned to death.

In a world of corruption and betrayal - where anything can be brought at a price - Latif has to battle to escape his new existence.

To celebrate the cinematic release of The Devil’s Double on Wednesday 10th  August we will take a look at other films where the weaponry will truly blow you away.

- Men in Black (1997)

When you’re taking on intergalactic menaces it doesn’t come as a surprise that the weaponry will be out of this world. The top secret agency, MIB, have a whole host of wild gadgets in various shapes and sizes from a memory eraser to humongous cannons.

When Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) finally allows newbie, Agent J (Will Smith) into the weapon room he’s like a kid in a candy store - until he gets lumped with the miniscule noisy cricket!

But as we all know, it’s not the size it’s how you use it - and the noisy cricket sure packs a punch!

- Planet Terror (2007)

Girls and guns have always been a big winner with audiences so, in Planet Terror Robert Rodriguez decided to combine the two - literally!

When zombies attack, go-go dancer Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan) has her leg ripped off by a hoard of the flesh hungry undead. Luckily, her mechanic ex, ‘El Wray’ (Freddy Rodriguez) is on hand to help.

He quickly attaches a prosthetic ‘leg’ in the form of a gun, making Cherry is a walking, talking weapon!

- Scarface (1983)

With a criminal empire to protect (and growing paranoia) Tony Montana (Al Pacino) has an armoury to be proud of!  Montana, and his enemies use a whole range of weapons from shotguns, to Uzi’s, to grenade launchers to get their points across.

And let’s not forget the iconic scene where Montana utters the immortal line 'say hello to my little friend!' In a blizzard of crime and guns the world is defiantly Montana’s!

- Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the Terminator - but this time he’s on the good side! Protecting both Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and her son John (Edward Furlong) from a new foe, the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) the Terminator has a whole new game plan.

With over 30 different weapons cropping up throughout (not including the two in the form of the terminators!) the film is chock full of weaponry that would make an arms dealer blush.

- Falling Down (1993)

William Foster (Michael Douglas) has been recently divorced and is under a restraining order to keep him away from his daughter.

He has also been laid off and when he is gets stuck in a traffic jam he finally cracks!  What follows is a meandering ‘rampage’ where Foster manages to acquire an Uzi and a TEC-9 along with various other guns.

When he’s finally tracked down he coerces a police officer into an old fashioned showdown! This is one down trodden man that shouldn’t be messed with!

- From Dusk Til Dawn (1996)

Stuck in a seedy  bar in the middle of the Mexican desert? Is it full to the rafters with vampires? Best hope you have a gun handy!

Whilst Priest Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel) wields a shotgun, baseball bat fusion (which he fashions into a crude cross to repel vamps), fellow patron Sex Machine (Tom Savini) uses an inventive piece of weaponry - a codpiece revolver!

With a weapon like that it will be hard to know if he’s pleased to see you or wants you dead!
