Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2

Every year the blockbuster summer season starts earlier and earlier, this year it kicks off on 29th April with Iron Man 2.

Yes the sting of Oscar movies have come to an end and it's now time for the blockbuster to dominate the big screen, although with the success of New Moon, Avatar and Alice In Wonderland it seems like they have never been away.

But Iron Man looks set to be one of the THE movies of the year let alone the summer as Robert Downey Jr returns as Tony Stark AKA Iron Man.

Now I must admit I'm super excited about this and am counting down the weeks until it hits the big screen at the end of the month.

The world now knows that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) is the armoured superhero named Iron Man.

Under pressure from the government, the media and the public to share his technology, Stark is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind Iron Man's armour for fear that the information will fall into the wrong hands.

With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and James 'Rhodey' Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Starks forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces including armoured titan Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) and seductive adventurer The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).

As well as familiar Downey Jr and Paltrow there are a whole host of stars on the cast list and we also get the chance for a first peak at War Machine.

Iron Man 2 is released 29th April.

It seems that no classic horror movie can get away without having to suffer a twenty first century remake, which is usually never a patch on the original.

And Nightmare on Elm Street is just the latest as Freddy Kruger returns to the big screen with Jackie Earle Haley in the iconic role.

A group of suburban teenagers have one thing in common - they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger. A horribly disfigured child-killer from Elm Street's past, Krueger hunts the kids in their dreams.

As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another - but when they give in and fall asleep, there is no escape. This new incarnation of A Nightmare On Elm Street is based on Wes Craven's 1984 classic.

The film marks the big screen debut of director Samuel Bayer, who has previously made classic music videos for bands like Nirvana and Green Day.

A Nightmare On Elm Street is released 7th May.

From one remake to another Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe reunite for a retelling of Robin Hood, which looks great by the way!

Yes Russell Crowe is back on the big screen, his first movie since last summer's political thriller State of Play, and, as you might expect, he is taking on the lead role of Robin.

In 13th Century England, expert archer Robin is a veteran of King Richard's campaigns against the French. After Richard's death, Robin travels to Nottingham, a town suffering from the corruption of a despotic sheriff.

There, he encounters the spirited widow Lady Marian (Cate Blanchett). Hoping to earn the hand of Maid Marian and restore the fortunes of the local people, Robin becomes a forest crusader.

He assembles a tough and resourceful gang whose mercenary skills are matched by their appetite for life. Taking on the indulgent upper class, they aim to correct the Sheriff's injustices.

With their country weakened from decades of war, embattled from the ineffective rule of the new king and vulnerable to insurgencies from within and threats from afar, Robin and his men heed a call to ever greater adventure.

The movie brings together a great cast of Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong, William Hurt, Mark Addy and Matthew Macfadyen. Let's hope it's better than Robin Hood: prince of Thieves!

Robin Hood is released 14th May.

Now as a general rule computer game based movies don't really work, Max Payne, Resident Evil, Hitman do I really need to say more?

Anyway this summer we may have a movie that bucks that trend comes in the form of Prince of Persia, which sees Jake Gyllenhaal in his first big blockbuster movie.

A rogue prince named Dastan finds himself in possession of a magical dagger. Releasing the sand the dagger contains has the effect of turning back time for a period in which only the dagger's holder is aware of what's happening.

Reluctantly joining forces with the mysterious princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) Dastan learns that to find such a treasure means the Gods have a plan for him. Also seeking the dagger's power are the evil forces led by Nizam (Ben Kinglsey) that want to use it to destroy the world.

Tamina persuades Dastan that the only way for them to halt this Armageddon is to take the dagger to its secret guardian temple. Together they race against time - and the terrifying Hassansins who pursue them - to the high temple, which is guarded by a demon...

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is released 21st May.

Who would have thought when the Sex and the City finished back in 2004, yes the show finished six years ago, that they would have a hugely successful movie under their belts and a second one on the way.

But that's exactly what they have done as Sex and the City 2 is hoping to once again hold it's own against the big budget blockbusters.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Catrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are back as Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte as they continue to lead busy lives in New York City.

Sex and the City 2 is released 28th May
