The Last Airbender

The Last Airbender

By the time we reach August, and we may all be tiring of the blockbuster season by this point, it's the action movie that really dominates the big screen.

In our final look at the movies that are gracing the big screen this summer the likes of Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and Sylvester Stallone all have movies released this month.

By August most parents will probably be tearing their hair out over how to keep the kids entertained and we may just have the answer for you... in the form of Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.

In the age-old battle between cats and dogs, one crazed feline has taken things a paw too far.

Kitty Galore, formerly an agent for cat spy organization MEOWS, has gone rogue and hatched a diabolical plan to not only bring her canine enemies to heel, but take down her former kitty comrades and make the world her scratching post.

Faced with this unprecedented threat, cats and dogs will be forced to join forces for the first time in history in an unlikely alliance to save themselves, and their humans.

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore is released 4th August

There's more comic book goodness coming in August as Bryan Lee O'Malley's series Scott Pilgrim gets a big screen makeover.

The movie, which is directed by Edgar Wright, sees a turn to movies for Michael Cera and he is joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Lieran Culkin, Chris Evans and Anna Kendrick.

Scott Pilgrim's life is so awesome. He's 23 years old, in a rock band, "between jobs," and dating a cute high school girl.

Everything's fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, roller blading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties.

But the path to Ms. Flowers isn't covered in rose petals. Ramona's seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness.

Can Scott beat the bad guys and get the girl without turning his precious little life upside-down?

Scott Pilgrim vs The World is released 6th August

It's far to say that M.Night Shyamalan has been a little off his game recently churning out movies such as The Happening.

However this summer could see his box office and critical luck change with his new movie The Last Airbender.

The film is a live-action film adaptation based on the first season of the highly successful, Emmy-winning animated television series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The movie brings together a cast that includes Dev Patel and Jackson Rathbone as well as introducing Noah Ringer, this is a movie that I'm personally really looking forward to!

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. In the old days, there was peace between the four nations of the world. The Avatar, Master of all four elements, kept peace between the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads.

Only the Avatar has the ability to Bend (manipulate) all four elements, but one day, he Vanished.

Then the Fire Nation attacked, forcing a war on the other three nations for one hundred years.

Now, for the good of the world, it's up to 12-year-old Aang (Noah Ringer), the new Avatar, and the last of the Air Nomads (Airbenders), to return peace and balance by putting an end to the war and mastering all four elements.

Aang must accept his destiny by stopping the Fire Nation's war and defeating the Fire Lord for good.

The Last Airbender is released 13th August

Nicolas Cage appears to not stop to breathe with the number of movies that he has worked on this year... and the Sorcerer's Apprentice is just the latest movie to hit the big screen.

Now you may all remember the Mickey Mouse sequence for Fantasia well The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a live action version of that.

Cage reunites with director Jon Turteltaub, his first movie since National Treasure: Book of Secrets back in 2007.

The movie boasts an impressive looking cast of Cage, Jay Baruchel, Monica Bellucci, Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell.

In modern day Manhattan, the master sorcerer Balthazar Blake (Cage) attempts to protect the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Molina), an evil wizard with nefarious plans.

Horvath is determined to claim New York City for his own evil purposes, and enlists an illusionist (Kebbell) to help him toward that end. Given the formidable forces working against him, Blake does not feel that he can accomplish this mission alone.

To help in his venture, he seeks out a seemingly average guy, Dave Stutler (Baruchel), who is recruited to be Blake's apprentice. Stutler is initially skeptical, and reluctant to get involved, but eventually is convinced by Blake to help in this cause.

Blake gives Stutler a crash course in magic, and mishaps invariably ensue. There is also a love interest in peril angle to the storyline that provides additional motivation for Stutler.

Together, Blake and Stutler take on Horvath in a classic good versus evil struggle.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is released 13th August.

But, without a shadow of a doubt, it's Sylvester Stallone's return to the big screen this summer that looks set to be explosive.

The actor, who is also directing the movie, has brought together the toughest cast ever to grace the big screen as Jason Statham, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolph Lundgren all join forces.

A group of mercenaries is hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator.

Once the mission begins, the men realize things aren’t quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal.

With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge... one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

The Expendables is released 13th August

It's been a while since we have seen Angelina Jolie on the big screen, but all that's about to change as Salt hits cinemas this August.

Directed by Phillip Noyce the movie also stars Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honour and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy.

Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture.

Salt’s efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: 'Who is Salt?'

Salt is released 20th August
