Blockbuster summer seems to start earlier every year, this time around kicking off at the end of April, and it looks like we have a new action hero in out midst.
Thor looks set to send the career of Chris Hemsworth rocketing as he takes on the title role in the Kenneth Branagh directed movie.
For all you soap fans you may recognise our hero as Kim Hyde from long running Aussie soap Home and Away but he has swapped the surf for Hollywood and this is his big break.
Thor is his first major blockbuster role, although he dies appear briefly at the beginning of J.J, Abrams' Star Trek.
At the centre of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war.
Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans.
A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love.
It's while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
As well as a first blockbuster role for Hemsworth it is also the first blockbuster for director Kenneth Branagh, who has been behind the camera since Sleuth.
Hemsworth may be at the helm of the movie but he is supported by a fantastic cast of Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard.
And this is only the start of the Marvel journey for Hemsworth, we all know that should this movie do well then a sequel is highly likely, but he is also set to star in The Avengers.
Yes the Aussie star is all set to join Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner in the Josh Whedon directed project.
Having an lesser known actor leading this movie may be just what propels it to success - and having seen the trailer it's a movie that I'm particularly looking forward to!
Thor is released 27th April
