It looks like District 9 lived up to all of it's pre-release hype as it stormed to the top of the UK box office.
But it's that time of week again when we round up all the studio news in what has been a busy few days for the movie industry.
- It looks likes Viggo Mortensen is planning to retire from acting.
The actor shot to fame as Aragon in The Lord of the Rings trilogy before going on to be Oscar nominated for his role in Eastern Promises.
However the fifty year old, yes he's fifty, has had enough of the promoting process from every movie.
In an interview with Men's Journal he said: I have no plans to do another movie. I don't know what's going to happen. I'm open to seeing how I feel in a while, but right now I'm not saying yes to anything."
However he will grace the screen one more time in the adaptation Cormac McCarthy's The Road out in January.
- Warner Bros has pulled out of a big screen, live action adaptation of classic cartoon He-Man.
The studio was working with Mattel and they had been working together on the project since 2007 and was to be produced by Joel Silver.
However the two sides have clashed over the direction of the film and have now parted company.
Joel Silver will not remain with the project but filmmaker John Stevenson remains on board.
- Timothy Dalton has joined the cast of Toy Story 3.
The former James Bond actor will take on the role of Mr Picklepants, a hedgehog toy who has desires to be an actor.
Dalton is the latest new name to be added to the cast list following in the footsteps of Michael Keaton who will voice the character of Ken, Barbie's boyfriend.
Toy Story 3 is expected to be released in June 2010.
- Halle Berry is rumoured to be in talks to star in Dark Tide according to Variety.
The movie is based around a diving instructor who, after almost being killed by a shark, returns to the water.
The film will be directed by Clark Johnson, the man behind S.W.A.T and filming is expected to get underway later this year.
- Brace yourself everyone but yet another horror movie, this time The Children of the Corn, has a remake in the pipeline.
Dimension Films is behind the movie and Bob Weinstein has hired Ehren Kruger, the writer behind Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, to pen the script.
The original movie followed a couple who visit a town in Nebraska where the children have killed all the adults and starred Linda Hamilton.
Children of the Corn follows in the footsteps of Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that have all received 21st Century makeovers, why can't they leave anything alone?
- A movie about President Barack Obama's mother is in the pipeline.
Rumoured to be titled Stanley Ann Dunham: A Most Generous Spirit the film will follows her as she raises her son Barack in Indonesia and then Hawaii.
Directed by Charles Burnett however no cast has yet been announced. Filming should get underway next year.
- It looks like a remake of the A-Team really is going ahead after it was announced earlier this week that former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson has signed up for the role of B.A. Baracus.
Already aboard the project is Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper in the movie that will be directed by Joe Carnahan and produced by both Ridley and Tony Scott.
The role of Baracus was originally played by Mr.T and it was a role that made him a household name. It's reported that the likes of 50 Cent, Game and Common were all considered for the part.
