Ryan Guzman and Kathryn McCormick star in the fourth instalment of the worldwide smash Step Up franchise, which sets the dancing against the vibrant backdrop of Miami, directed by Scott Speer.
The film, shot in 3D, is produced by Jennifer Gibgot and Adam Shankman under their Offspring Entertainment banner as well as Summit Entertainment’s Patrick Wachsberger and Erik Feig.
Jon M. Chu, the director of Step Up 2: The Streets and STEP UP 3-D, is executive producer alongside Offspring’s Matt Smith. The screenplay for the project is penned by Jenny Mayer.
Step Up, the first film in the series, was released in theatres in 2006. Its sequel Step Up 2: The Streets was released in theatres in 2008.
The most recent film in the franchise, Step Up 3-D, was released in 2010. The franchise has grossed over $430 million in worldwide box office ticket sales to date and is the most successful dance film series in history.
Emily (McCormick), the daughter of a wealthy businessman, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but soon falls in love with Sean (Guzman), a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs.
The crew, called the MOB, strives to win a contest for a major sponsorship opportunity, but soon Emily's father threatens to develop the MOB's historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people.
Emily must band together with Sean and the MOB to turn their performance mobs into protest mobs, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.
The film marks Guzman’s acting debut. He has achieved great success as a well known model. McCormick was discovered on the television series So You Think You Can Dance.
