Star Trek is one of the biggest sci-fi series to ever grace television and the silver screen since William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and co kicked off the show in 1966.
This week sees J.J. Abrams take the franchise back to the beginning, happening to a lot of long-standing franchises of late, and with it comes a whole new cast to take on roles that were made famous in the sixties.
The film follows Enterprise's maiden voyage so lets introduce you to that cast that will crew her.
Chris Pine - James Kirk
Despite the likes of Matt Damon being linked to the role it is the virtual unknown Chris Pine that has the unenviable task of stepping into William Shatner's very large shoes.

Pine's Kirk is a tear-away who doesn't know where he belongs and is the son of a starship captain.

Adrien Brody had discussed playing the role with the director before Quinto was cast.
Simon Pegg - Montgomery "Scotty" Scott
British funnyman Simon Pegg was the only member of the cast that did not have to audition for his part, he was emailed by Abrams asking him if he wanted to play Scotty.
The ship's engineer is in exile for a transporter mishap that involved the Starfleet admiral's dog going missing.
Pegg shot to fame in Spaced and has gone on to become a star of both television and the big screen. He moved into cinema with British movies such as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.
Zoe Saldana - Nyota Uhura
Saldana had not seen the original Star Trek series but JJ Abrams had requested that she play the role of communications office Uhura.
Uhura is a very important tool on the ship acting as translator and is an expert in linguistics.

Karl Urban - Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy
Karl urban shot to fame in 2002 when he played Eomer in the second and third instalment of Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
