Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch

No British actor is more on the rise at this very moment than Benedict Cumberbatch - who just seems to be everywhere at the moment.

The actor has been making a name for himself on both TV and the big screen and this is why he has made the FemaleFirst Hot List.

Despite roles in the likes of Starter For 10, Atonement and The Other Boleyn Girl over the years it was really his casting as Sherlock Holmes for the new BBC series that made him a household name.

Since taking the part of the super-sleuth his career has gone just one way... UP!!

He can currently be seen in the new series of Sherlock Holmes, which is just as critically acclaimed as the last but we are going to be seeing a whole lot more of him on the big screen.

In 2011 he put in a great turn in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy alongside Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong and Colin Firth.

And this week he is back in another big project as he joins the all star cast of War Horse.

Cumberbatch takes on the role of Maj. Jamie Stewart in the First World War movie that is directed by Steven Spielberg.

The movie has been received acclaim from just about everywhere and it is a major frontrunner when it comes to the Best Picture Oscar - however it could face tough competition from The Artist and The Descendants.

But there is no movie that people are more excited about then The Hobbit, which is set to be split into two parts; An Unexpected Journey and There and Back Again.

And Cumberbatch will be joining his Sherlock co-star Martin Freeman on the cast list - however we will not be seeing him until the 2013 release There and Back Again.

In the Peter Jackson movie the actor will be working on two characters - Smaug and The Necromancer; which involves motion capture work.

The Hobbit looks set to dominate the box office for the next two years and should send Cumberbatch's star rocketing even further.

And as if that wasn't enough it was announced earlier this week that he will play the baddie in Star Trek 2.

The movie will team him up with another high profile filmmaker in the form of J.J. Abrams in what is expected to be another blockbuster hit.

Benedict Cumberbatch's star is very quickly on the rise and by 2013 he really could be a big name not just in the UK but in Hollywood!!!
