James Bond returns to the big screen this week with Skyfall as Daniel Craig reprises the role of 007.
This year also marks the 50th anniversary of the franchise and over the years Bond has faced some formidable foes.
To celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at the top five Bond villains of all time.
1. Ernst Stavro Blofeld
There have been a whole host of great baddie performances over the years but the ultimate villain of the franchise has been Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
The leader of SPECTRE has appeared in six Bond movies: From Russia with Love (1963), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) and Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and his final appearance is the pre-title teaser of For Your Eyes Only (1981).
He has also been played by four different actors including Eric Pohlmann, Donald Pleasance, Telly Savalas, and Charles Gray.
Blofeld is a rich and powerful genius who has had some of the most iconic scenes and moments in the franchise; the stroking of the cat perhaps being one of the most memorable.
The character was the ultimate nemesis for Bond and he could be in not other spot than #1.
2. Auric Goldfinger
Goldfinger was released in 1964 and saw Sean Connery once again in the lead role as 007 - this time coming up against baddie Goldfinger.
Goldfinger was played by Gert Frobe in the movie a man obsessed with gold who plans to plant an atomic bomb in Fort Knox.
There are more iconic moments with this character as he kills Jill Masterson using gold paint - therefore suffocating her.
"No Mr Bond, I expect you to die!" remains the most memorable and quoted line from a James Bond movie.
3. Jaws
If you want a larger than life villain then Jaws if your man and he was introduced to audiences in The Spy Who Loved Me.
Richard Kiel brought a real presence and menace to the role and he his metal teeth made him a man not to mess with.
Jaws was such a fave amongst fans that the character returned in Moonraker - where he finally found love.
That may have been a slightly cheesy end to the character's story but he still remains one of the most memorable villains from the franchise.
4. Rosa Klebb
A vast majority of the women that are part of the Bond franchise are not there to play killers - except the character of Rosa Klebb.
She managed to miss the awful names that tend to befall female characters and she is the only lady to make our top five villains list.
Played by Lotte Lenya the character of Klebb was introduced in From Russia With Love and this was not a woman that you wanted to cross.
Donning a pair of shoes with poisonous blades in them and carrying around a while Klebb was a master of torture.
5. Dr No
Dr No was the first ever Bond villain to grace the big screen and therefore set the standard for all of the others to follow.
Joseph Wiseman took on the role of Dr Julius No, a member of SPECTRE who had a fascination with radioactive material - which has left him with metal hands.
Dr No is plotting to disrupt the Project Mercury - a space launch - until he is stopped by 007.
Skyfall is released 26th October
