Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez is currently enjoying success in TV, music and movies and will be back on the small screen for the fourth and final season of Wizards of Waverly Place.

She was in London at the end of last week to help promote the launch of Disney Channel HD and I caught up with her to discuss all the projects that she has on the go at the moment.

- You have performed a gig in London to launch the Disney Channel HD so how was the gig?

It was awesome, it was really fun. It really is the best part of what I do I really enjoy sharing my music with everyone.

- A 4th series of Wizards of Waverly Place is heading to the UK for what can we expect from the show this time around?

This is the fourth season but it is also the last so we felt that we wanted to raise the game - so there are a lot more special effects as well a lot more hour specials.

There are also some really fun storylines but to finish the season the end episodes are really intense, but they are a lot of fun.

- As you say this is the final season of the show so how sad will you be to leave the character of Alex Russo behind?

We are ahead in the States we have, unfortunately, already finished the season but it has been very bittersweet and I miss Alex a lot.

But on the other hand it does feel like the right time to movie on.

- You mentioned that this season sees more special effects so how do you find working with those special effects?

They are the hardest thing for me to work with mainly because I am not really a visual person - I like to see the things and feel the things and it’s not easy to talk to a piece of tape.

-  When The Sun Goes Down is a third studio album from yourself so how would you describe your music to someone who is listening to if for the first time?

Basically it’s a club in a CD. I just wanted to make music that was really electronic, dancey and fun, that has been my vibe up to this point and I think that this record really embraces that in a way that is really fun and cheeky.

- You penned the song When The Sun Goes Down so how important is it for you to show your song writing talent?

It’s really fun because you can make the song personal and use experiences that I have gone through.

Unfortunately I never get the time do as much song writing for an album as I would like.

- You kicked off you career in acting but how much was music something you wanted do?

Oh yeah definitely, I was named after a singer and music really was very big in my house as I was growing up. I have always loved music and entertaining it was just about finding the right time I guess.

- How have you found the transition from acting to music, although you haven’t given up the acting?

It’s been fun and it’s been a lot better than I expected - the reaction that I have received for my music has been wonderful.

- As well as TV and music we are also going to be seeing you on the big screen in Monte Carlo - so can you tell me a bit about the movie?

Monte Carlo is kind of a romantic comedy/ adventure movie that follows three girls who travel to Europe hoping to have an amazing vacation - but it ends up being a complete disaster.

They bump into a British heiress, which I also play, and we switch lives with her, without her knowing, to make our vacation better. We fall in love with people along the way so it really is a lot of fun.

- You take on the role of Grace so what was it about the character and the script that drew you to the movie?

Obviously I have a very loyal fan base that I love to appeal to, I love making my fans happy, so I wanted to make a film that everyone could go and see.

And this was really fun because Leighton, Katie, Cory and everyone in the cast were really wonderful.

But Grace is such a relatable character she is a girl who doesn’t really fit in at high school, she can’t wait to get out of high school and see the world and make a better life for herself - I feel that a lot of people can relate to that.

- You have touched on my next question really the film has a great cast Katie Cassidy, Leighton Meester and Andi McDowell so how did find working alongside all of those?

It was so good for me because I am not as experienced as all of them so it was really great to be on a set with professionals that were amazing, sweet and humble.

- You mentioned that you want to appeal to your fans with the work that you do but how keen are you to move away from that and take on more challenging and dramatic roles?

I think it’s all about baby steps and I am not thinking too much in that direction at the moment - I just want to do things that are different and work my way to that point.

- Your music and TV is going very well but much will movie roles be something that you focus on now?

Eventually that’s all I am going to be focusing on because that is the direction that I really want to be in for a long time. Eventually my whole focus will shift to that.

- How does movie work compare to TV? How much will movie role be something that you will focus on?

Being on a show for four and a half years it’s all you’ve know and it’s your life, you just want to go and do different things.

The biggest thing that appeals to me about movies is because you are not playing the same character and you get to chance it up.

- Finally what's next for you - there are some Sex and the City prequel rumours are there any truth to those?

No, there’s no truth in that. But I will be going on tour this summer across the U.S., which I am very excited about, and hopefully I will be doing another movie in the fall.
