Samantha Barks is a talent to really watch out for over the next couple of years as she kicks of her big screen career this week with Les Miserables.
Yes her first movie role is set to be one of the biggest films of 2013 as she plays Eponine, a role she is very familiar with, in the Tom Hooper directed project.
Barks captured British attention back in 2008 when she competed in I'd Do Anything on the BBC - which was Andrew Lloyd Webber's search for an actress to play Nancy in his stage show Oliver.
Week in and week out she showed that she had a fantastic voice and finally finished in third place.
Since then she has concentrated on a theatre career with roles in the likes of Cabaret before going on to land the role of Eponine.
The role was for a production of Les Miserables at the Queen's Theatre in London... and that was her ticket to an even bigger production of the musical.
Cameron Mackintosh show her in that show and she was later cast in the same part for the 25th Anivversary Concert of Les Miserables at the O2 that same year.
Since then Barks has mixed her work as she has juggled a pop career with other theatre shows such as Oliver - she also appeared on TV show Groove High.
But this week we will see her star begin to rocket as she steps onto the big screen to reprise a role that she know so well.
The movie sees her star alongside Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and fellow Brit Eddie Redmayne.
And with her performance Barks has been grabbing some of the spotlight for herself as she has begun picking up award nominations and gongs for her fantastic performance.
She won the Spotlight Award at the Hollywood Film Festival and was also nominated for the Most Promising Performer at the Chicago Film Critics Association.
She went on to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Satellite Awards but lost out to her co-star Anne Hathaway.
Since completing filming on Les Mis the actress returned to the theatre but this is a movie that looks set to put her on the map and more film roles should be coming her way.
Les Miserables is released 11th January.
