Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson

Poor Robert Pattinson can't walk down the street without being mobbed by the rather excited Twilight fans or pick up a newspaper without seeing his face splashed all over it.

It's fair to say that Pattinson has become of cinema's biggest newcomers in such a small space of time and it's all thanks to a little role in some obscure vampire movie.

Yes the British actor landed the role of Edward Cullen in last year's Twilight and he hasn't looked back since, amazingly it was Kellan Lutz who was earmarked for the role before turning it down.

But Twilight was the actor's first appearance on the big screen oh no as Harry Potter fans will recognise him from taking on the role of Cedric Diggory in Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix.

While he took on other roles in the likes of The Haunted Airman and The Bad Mother's Handbook for TV it was twilight that made everyone, mainly the girls, sit up and take note.

The Twilight Saga were a popular series of novels by writer Stephenie Meyer and Twilight had been in production for three years before we finally got a chance to take a look at it.

And no one would deny that Edward Cullen was the role that has shot him to superstardom and made him the latest heart-throb to cover the bedroom walls of many a teenage girl.

Edward Cullen is a 108-year-old vampire who was changed in 1918 and still appears to be seventeen with the ability to read minds.

A high school student he falls in love with human Bella Swan, who has moved to Forks, to live with her father, putting her life in danger.

The movie did well at the box office grossing over $379 million but it's the latest movie New Moon that is really causing all the fuss.

Picking up where twilight left off New Moon sees Bella and Edward's relationship grow until an incident at Bella's birthday party puts her in danger from Edward's own family.

In a bid to protect her Edward and his family move to Washington leaving Bella behind, Edward only appearing as a figment of her imagination.

Despite being released in less than twenty four hour New Moon has already become the top-selling pre-release movie of all time.

Away from the franchise Pattinson took on a very different role earlier this year with Little Ashes, in which he played Salvador Dali.

The movie Little Ashes is quite compelling looking at Dali's rise to fame and his eccentricity of later years and his friend Federico Garcia Lorca's fight for Spain's freedom and it's good to see the young actor mixing up his roles.

Next year Remember Me, which sees him star alongside Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, is also on the agenda.

The movie centred on two lovers whose newfound relationship is threatened as they try to cope with their respective family tragedies.

But when you look forward it's the Twilight Saga that looms large on the horizon as Eclipse, the third film in the series, is due for release next summer.

New Moon is released 20th November.
