Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs was Quentin Tarantino's debut movie released back in 1992 which gave audiences a first look at the nonlinear storylines and stylistically excessive violence that he is now so famous.

But as well as showing off Tarantino to the film world as a director to keep an eye on it brought together a great ensemble cast that was a mix of experienced actors and those who used to the film to shoot to the public's attention.

So what happened to the line up after the success of Reservoir Dogs, a movie that really put independent movies in the spotlight?

Harvey Keitel - of course Keitel was best known for his role in Mean Streets and Taxi Driver but by the early nineties he was struggling to break out of the tough guy roles.

But Reservoir Dogs was the role as Mr White that re-launched his stalling career. His career flourished with roles in Thelma and Louise and an Oscar nominated turn in Bugsy before going onto the likes of Bad Lieutenant and Pulp Fiction.

Steve Buscemi - having had a string of small roles in Millers Crossing and Barton Fink, both by the Coen Brothers, it was the 1992 independent film that brought Buscemi to the attention of the public and the film industry.

Thanks to Mr Pink bigger roles came his way as he went on to star in blockbusters Con Air and Armageddon before reuniting with the Coen's in Fargo.

He has also moved into directing working in Interview and Lonesome Jim as well as TV show The Sopranos.

Tim Roth - the British actor had found success at home working with the likes of  Stephen Frears and Peter Greenway. But it was Tarantino's casting of him in the role of Mr Orange that opened the doors of Hollywood.

After two more collaborations with Tarantino in Four Room and Pulp Fiction an Oscar nomination came his way for his role in Rob Roy before he went on to work on the likes of Planet of the Apes, Hannibal and The Incredible Hulk.

Michael Madsen - despite having a role in Thelma and Louise it was his role as Mr Blonde that really brought him to the attention of the critics and film fans, who can forget Stuck in the Middle?

Almost immediately the major studios cast him as he landed roles in Bonnie Brasco, Free Willy and Mulholland Falls.

In recent years he has tended to stick to the lower budget films where he made his name, re-teaming with Tarantino for Kill Bill. But he did return to the blockbuster with Die Another Day and Sin City.

Chris Penn - was regularly type cast in the tough guy roles but Reservoir Dogs happens to be one of his most memorable performances as Nice Guy Eddie.

Awards at the Venice Film Festival followed for his role in The Funeral before moving onto Rush Hour and eventually in TV show Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Quentin Tarantino - also showed off his acting credentials when he cast himself as Mr Brown and while he would go on to star in From Dusk Til Dawn, Four Rooms and Desperado it is his directing that he is better known for.

He changed the face of the independent movie making them marketable as he followed up Reservoir Dogs with Pulp Fiction, which was Oscar nominated.
