Quartet is one of the early must see movies of 2013 as Dustin Hoffman finally makes his directorial debut.
Yes the Oscar winner has enjoyed a career that has spanned decades and he has only just got round to helming a project - but believe me it is worth the wait.
And Hoffman has brought together an eye-watering array of talent as Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Billy Connolly, Pauline Collins, Sheridan Smith and Michael Gambon are all set to star in this moving comedy.
The movie light up the big screen when it was screened at the BFI London Film Festival earlier this autumn and it really is a delightful movie from start to finish.
Lifelong friends Wilf (Connolly) and Reggie (Courtenay), together with former colleague Cissy (Collins), are residents of Beecham House, a home for retired opera singers.
Every year on Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday, the residents unite to give a concert to raise funds for their home.
But when Jean Horton (Smith), a former grande dame of the opera fallen on hard times, also Reggie’s ex-wife and the fourth and most celebrated member of their former quartet, moves into the home to everyone’s surprise, the plans for this year’s concert start to unravel.
Quartet is released 1st January
