We have taken a look at the ninth best movie of the year and now it is time to check out the ninth worst movie of 2012.
And sadly it has to Ridley Scott's return to sci-fi and Prometheus failed to hit the dizzy heights that I was expecting.
Now I will admit that this was one of the movies that I was really looking forward to this summer - and the trailers just looked fantastic.
And while there were some great moments it was the most disappointing movie of the year.
The year’s 2093 and we follow Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace), a scientist who is convinced of alien life having a key hand in the story of mankind.
Following clues left throughout history, she travels to an unknown planet along with her partner Charlie (Logan Marshall Green), a small band of explorers and the trillion-dollar backing of the Weyland Corporation, who’ve sent ice cold exec Vickers (Charlize Theron) and robot David (Michael Fassbender) along for the ride.
They intend to find out if the clues are correct and find the origins of humanity. They end up finding a whole lot more and not all of it is all that friendly.
I have to say that from an aesthetic perspective Prometheus is well and truly on the money as it is one of the most visually stunning movies that I have seen this year.
The sweeping photography of the planet creates an fascinating world that you are eager to explore with the characters while the design work of the ship and setting has been depicted in the greatest detail.
But while they have paid painstaking attention what the movie looks like the same cannot be said for the rest of the movie as it is just lacking and has that 'been there, done that' feel to it.
There first hours is packed with tension and uncertainty as the set out to explore this new world but the horror of what they find isn't particularly that hard hitting - I have to admit I was expecting more jumps and thrills and it just did not deliver.
Sadly the movie does come to a rather disappointing conclusion and it doesn't really give you the answers that you were hoping for.
We are introduced some interesting characters in the movie and none more so that Elizabeth Shaw, played by the fantastic Noomi Rapace.
She is a woman of faith who sees that really put to the test on this mission. But she is a woman of great strength and while she will inevitably be compared to Ripley she is a completely different character.
While there are some great moments in Prometheus and it looks utterly fantastic it fails to hit the dizzy heights that we were expecting.
