Paddy Considine

Paddy Considine

There have been quite a few actors making their directorial debuts this year but the guy that everyone really should be really excited about if Paddy Considine.

Now we already knew that Considine was a talented actor and writer but he has taken his skills behind the camera with Tyrannosaur - and is seems that there is no end to his talent!

The movie follows Joseph, a man plagued by violence and a rage that is driving him to self-destruction, who earns a chance of redemption that appears in the form of Hannah, a Christian charity shop worker.

It’s hard to believe that this is a debut as it such a stunning piece of work from both a film and screenplay perspective - yes he penned the script as well.

He also brings together an excellent cast as Peter Mullan and Olivia Colman are simply perfect together as the two damaged souls who stumble across each other.

Without a doubt this is a hard watch as Considine doesn’t shy away from the more brutal aspect of the story.

This is a great character study that looks at the effects that violence can have on us - inwardly in the case of Joseph and at the hands of others for Hannah.

The critics have been raving about this movie left, right and centre and every word is well deserved - this is the best British movie of the year.

If Considine can make this kind of movie at the first time of asking the movies that he is set to make over the coming years can only get better and better - which is an exciting prospect.

In 2012 Considine is set to return to the day job as he has completed work on Now Is Good and Girl on a Bicycle.

There are no current directing projects in the pipeline but hopefully it won’t be long before wee see him once again moving his director behind the camera
