The King's Speech is already surrounded in Oscar talk, despite that fact that it is only October, as Colin Firth's performance is already winning over the critics.
Yes the British actor, who picked up his first Academy Award nomination earlier this year for A Single Man, could go one better in 2011 as he plays King George VI.
The movie is directed by Tom Hooper, his first movie since The Damned United, and also stars Helena Bonham-Carter, Geoffrey Rush, Guy Pearce, Michael Gambon and Derek Jacobi.
The movie follows the story of the man who became King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth II. After his brother abdicates, George ('Bertie') reluctantly assumes the throne.
Plagued by a dreaded stutter and considered unfit to be king, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue.
Through a set of unexpected techniques, and as a result of an unlikely friendship, Bertie is able to find his
voice and boldly lead the country through war.
Lets hope that Colin Firth can bring that Oscar home! The King's Speech is released 7th January 2001. Take a look at the new trailer for the movie:
