The Lucky One

The Lucky One

The Lucky One is the latest Nicholas Sparks stories that has been enjoying success at the box office over recent weeks.

But The Lucky One is not the first of his novels to be adapted and enjoy success. Here are a few of his famous books which have been made into films:

Everyone’s favourite tear-jerking film is The Notebook, released in 2004, and it really brought Nicholas Spark’s stories to everyone’s attention.

But before The Notebook, Sparks was helping to fuel tissue companies’ profits with A Walk to Remember. The 2002 film starring Shane West and Mandy Moore follows the love story of a religious girl and a bad boy, who are pulled together after he is forced to do community service in a school play.

Despite their opposing backgrounds they begin a relationship, which changes both their lives and makes them realise what true love really is.

The Notebook is a movie that turned a generation of young women into emotional wrecks as this film just captures romance perfectly.

Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams just sparkle as Noah and Allie and their onscreen chemistry really push the movie foward and make the whole story so real and heart-wrenching.

In 2008, Diane Lane and Richard Gere starred in Nights in Rodanthe, a rollercoaster film about two people drawn together in a small town called Rodanthe.

Both running away from terrible things happening in their lives, they are drawn together and fall in love. Although their love flourishes, in the end tragedy strikes.

Diane Lane delivers a very moving performance as a woman who is in real turmoil as she over the decision to give her husband a second chance after his affair.

She is a woman who lives her life for other people, in particular her children, trying to be everything she thinks they need to her to be... except herself.

Lane has a great chemistry with Richard Gere and it's great to see a real romance story between two older actors.

Before all of these films, Sparks wrote Message in a Bottle. The film was released in 1999, and tells the story of a reporter, Robin Wright, who finds love letters in a bottle and publishes them for the world to enjoy.

After discovering the original owner, Garret (Kevin Costner) they fall in love, but their love is not to last and tragedy is soon calling at their door.

Although a beautiful love story always thrives in Spark’s adaptations, tragedy is never far away in many of the novels and films.

Dear John is another Nicholas Sparks novel adapted for the big screen that brought Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried together.

While John is on leave in his hometown, he finds Savannah, a college student visiting the town. Although love was unexpected, it doesn't mean they didn't find it.

With the knowledge of John having to leave for the army, their love still lives, until his re-signs on due to the 9/11 attack. Troubles invade and their love put on hold. One cannot bear it anymore; can the other?

Director Lasse Hallstrom has brought to life a charming tale of a love put to the test and a love, despite time and all the odds, that stands the test of time.

This is an incredibly charming movie and Tatum & Seyfried are just perfect.

A Walk to Remember, Nights in Rodanthe, Dear John and Message in a Bottle are available to buy on DVD now.
