Terminator

Terminator

This week the Autobots and the Decepticons continue to wage war with one another as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen finally gets it's release.

While there's a buzz around this movie and that the likes of Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are returning to the franchise the Transformers fans will be looking forward to the return of Optimus Prime and co.

So to celebrate the release of the movie later this week we took a look at some of the best movie robots to ever grace the big screen.

Terminator

The Terminator has to be one of the meanest and unstoppable robots to ever appear on the silver screen.

First there was Arnie as a T-800, which was sent packing by Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese before the t-1000, in the form of Robert Patrick, tried to kill a young John Connor.

But in T2 Arnie's T-800 became the hero and was taught what it means to be human. Over the last two Terminator movies the metal villain has evolved and changed as Skynet tried to wipe out the threat of John Connor.

Wall-E

Pixar creation Wall-E couldn't be further away from the badass nature of the terminator when he hit screens last summer melting the hearts of everyone.

Wall-E, who after hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, trash compacting, discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named Eve.

The little robot inadvertently stumbles upon the key to the planet's future and goes on an adventure of his own into space. The movie was a box office smash grossing over $534 at the global box office and going on to scoop an Oscar for Best Animated Picture.

R2-D2 & C3PO

Star Wars changed the perception of robots in movies, they had quite often been seen as cold and emotionless creatures as well as usually being the enemy.

But Star Wars used robots, in the form of R2-D2 & C3PO, to inject humour into the movies and they acted a double act throughout all six films.

The pair brought smiles and fun to the movies like no robot had ever managed before and remain two of cinema's most iconic characters of all time.

Robocop

It's hard to believe that it was over twenty years that Robocop burst into cinemas, I think I was a little young to watch it as the death of Alex J. Murphy is still one of the worst things I have seen in a movie.

But Alex Murphy becomes Robocop when his remains are reconstructed into a powerful cyborg that patrols the city stopping violent crime.

The only thing that you need to known about Robocop is that he one badass cop/robot that takes his job very seriously.

Sonny

I Robot's Sonny is one of the more recent robots to grace the big screen back in 2004 alongside Will Smith.

Sonny is a NS-5 (Nestor Class-Five) robot who has 'dreams' and has been taught emotions as well as think and have instinct.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is released 19th June
