Michael Fassbender In Jane Eyre

Michael Fassbender In Jane Eyre

Michael Fassbender is an actor that we should all get excited about as he has already shown that he capable of tacking a whole host of roles from the likes of Bobby Sands in Hunger to Magneto in blockbuster X-Men: First Class.

This week sees him return to the big screen with his new movie Jane Eyre, in which he plays Rochester alongside Mia Wasikowska.

So to celebrate the release of the latest adaptation of this celebrated novel we take a look at some of the Fassbender movies that should be in your collection.

- Band of Brothers

It's been ten years since Band of Brothers graced the small screen for the first time as Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks' vision was realised.

Fassbender took on the role of Sgt. Burton 'Pat' Christenson in the series which followed East Company of the US Army 101st Airbourne during the Second World War.

It was the first major role for the young actor and the series went on to be a mammoth success - one of the finest war project; in my humble opinion!

- 300

After a series of TV project in the early noughties movies finally came knocking in 2006 as the Irish actor landed a role in 300.

Directed by Zack Snyder the movie followed King Leonidas and a force of 300 men fight the Persians at Thermopylae in 480 B.C.

Fassbender took on the role of Stelios alongside an all star cast that included Gerard Butler, David Wenham and Dominic West.

Based on the Frank Miller graphic novel 300 was a visually stunning all out action movie that was one of the best blockbusters of that year.

- Hunger

However it was his performance as Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen#s directorial debut Hunger that really put Fassbender on the map.

The movie followed the last six weeks of the life of the Irish republican hunger striker Bobby Sands.

Fassbender lost an astonishing 21KG to give a powerful and captivating performance as Sands in what remains the best performance of his career so far in this hard-hitting and unflinching movie.

The movie was a critical hit and saw Fassbender's star quickly rise.

- Inglourious Basterds

In 2009 he teamed up with director Quentin Tarantino and the likes of Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz and Diane Kruger for another war project... Inglourious Basterds.

Fassbender takes on the role of Lt. Archie Hicox in the movie - an English soldier who is sent undercover as a German soldier to uncover information on the Third Reich.

Inglourious Basterds is Tarantino through and through as he mixes humour with his trademark spraying of violence and gore. Mix in with that witty dialogue and you have one of the best war movies in recent years.

Fassbender and the rest of the ensemble cast are outstanding and the movie went on to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

- Fish Tank

Fassbender left Hollywood behind for his next project as teamed up with director Andrea Arnold for British drama Fish Tank in 2009.

He takes on the role of Connor in the movie, the new boyfriend of Mia's (played by Kate Jarvis) mother.

He immediately takes a shine Mia, complimenting her on her dancing skills and lending her money. Is he merely giving Mia the attention she needs or does Connor have more sinister intentions?

The movie was a huge hit with the critics when it was released and went on to win the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

- X-Men: First Class

This summer Fassbender was back on the big screen as he, along with James McAvoy, lead the cast in blockbuster X-Men: First Class.

He took over the role of Erik Lehnsherr from Ian McKellan as director Matthew Vaughn took the X-Men story back to the sixties.

X-Men: First Class was a huge hit when it hit the screens earlier this summer and it really was one of the blockbusters of recent months.

There was a great chemistry between Fassbender and McAvoy as they seeds of their long standing friendship are sown.

The movie took over $350 million at the global box office.

- Jane Eyre

Rochester is one of the greatest bionic heroes and Fassbender brings his interpretation of the character to eh big screen this week.

Jane Eyre (Wasikowska) flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester.

The isolated and imposing residence, and Mr. Rochester's coldness, have sorely tested the young woman's resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned.

As Jane reflects upon her past and recovers her natural curiosity, she will return to Mr. Rochester, and the terrible secret that he is hiding...

Jane Eyre is released 9th September.
