Michael Clarke Duncan was one of the most recognisable actors working in Hollywood - a larger than life character who lit up the big screen.
This week the fifty four year old passed away in hospital after never recovering from a heart attack that he suffered earlier this summer.
The actor had enjoyed a career that had spanned almost twenty years and we take a look back at some of the highlights.
- The Green Mile
The Green Mile will be the role for which he will most fondly be remembered as he took on the part of the gentle-hearted John Coffey.
While it wasn't his first movie it was the role that really proved to be his breakthrough as he teamed up with Tom Hanks for the very first time time.
He gave a powerful and emotional performance as a prisoner on death row who possesses an incredible gift.
His touching performance earnt him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination as well as nods at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild.
The movie was met well by the critics when it was released and the film went on to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
- Armageddon
Armageddon was one of the early roles for the actor and he had a real presence as oil-rig worker Bear who, along with Bruce Willis, was called upon to save the world.
Armageddon was an action packed movie that was packed with laughs along the way as there was a Dirty Dozen feel to the band of actors that came together.
Duncan was joined on the cast list by Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Owen Wilson, Will Patton and Steve Buscemi.
The movie went on to becomes the biggest grossing movie of the year as it stormed the box office around the globe.
- Sin City
Sin City was one of the best and most visually stunning movies of 2005 as Frank Miller's graphic novel was brought to life.
The actor took on the role of Manute in The Big Fat Kill sequence - once again delivering a very imposing performance.
The one-eyed mercenary role was a rough and ready part from the actor as he showed a side that perhaps we have never seen before.
Sin City is a great ensemble piece that saw Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Clive Owen all also on this ultra stylish and very violent movie.
- Daredevil
Duncan showed off his dark side in 2003 when he took on the role of Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin for Daredevil.
The actor put on a further 40 pounds to make him an even more imposing presence in all of the scenes.
Daredevil was a big screen interpretation of the Marvel Comic character and saw Ben Affleck take on the lead role - JEnnifer Garner and Colin Farrell were also on the cast list.
The rooftop battle with Daredevil was one of the most memorable moments for the actor in the movie.
- Planet of the Apes
The actor teamed up with direct Tim Burton for Planet of the Apes in a role where the audience didn't see Duncan at all.
He took on the role of Colonel Attar in the movie and was under the layers of prosthetics and make-up as he was turned into an ape.
But there was no doubt that it was Duncan under there as that rich deep voice boomed out throughout the film.
It was to be the only role in Duncan's career where he went under such a huge transformation.
But we will be seeing Duncan on the big screen as he has already completed movies The Challenger and In The Hive.
