Liam Neeson has enjoyed a wide range of roles over the years but he was never considered an action hero... until now.
Yes Neeson is back this week with Taken 2 as he reprises the role of Bryan Mills who is once again called upon to kick some ass in order to save his family.
It was back in 2008 when Neeson took on the role of Mills and really stepped into the part of an action hero for the first time.
Taken was a critical and commercial hit and it was one of the best movies in this genre of the year.
It was a slick and action packed movie that really showed Neeson in a new light.
Since then Neeson has really cemented himself as a bit of an action god with a whole host of movies that has seen his career go down a very different path.
In 2010 the A-Team was remade for the big screen and it was the Oscar nominated actor that landed the role of Hannibal and lead the all star cast.
Directed by Joe Carnahan the movie followed a group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed.
While The A-Team may have struggled a little with the critics and at the box office the movie saw Neeson once again taking the fight to the bad guys - not to mention having fun with this roles.
Unknown saw Neeson return to the genre back in 2011 as he starred alongside Diane Kruger and Aidan Quinn.
The movie follows a man who awakens from a coma, only to discover that someone has taken on his identity and that no one, (not even his wife), believes him. With the help of a young woman, he sets out to prove who he is.
Liam Neeson once again excels as the action hero as he tries to uncover the truth - only to not like what he finds.
And with Taken 2 Neeson takes it up a notch as he teams up with filmmaker Olivier Megaton while Luc Besson penned the script.
Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a 'particular set of skills', stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from kidnappers in Taken.
When the father of one of the villains Bryan killed swears revenge, and takes his wife hostage in Istanbul, Bryan uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.
Neeson proves that it is not only the young guns that can excel in this genre and long may his love of action roles continue!!
Taken 2 is released 4th October.
