If there is one movie that FemaleFrst won’t be missing in the early part of next year then it is Les Misérables as Tom Hooper makes his triumphant return to the director’s chair.
Hooper has already achieved the Best Director/Best Picture double with The King’s Speech and he could well do it a second time with this epic musical.
Les Misérables is the first film outing for Hooper since that triumph with The King’s Speech and an early screening of the movie went down a storm as it was met with a standing ovation.
And when you have cast like this it hard to believe that this movie will not be a massive success both critically and commercially.
Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway come together to take on the roles of Jean Valjean, Javert and Fantine - all three of them showing off their singing voices.
Jackman has been tipped for a possible Best Actor Oscar nod while Hathaway’s rendition of I Dreamed A Dream promises to be an emotional affair - seriously I think tissues will be necessary.
They are joined on the cast list by Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks while Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen will provide the comic relief as Madame Thenardier and Thenardier.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.
Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole.
When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
Les Misérables is already one of the most successful and popular musicals and Hooper’s adaptation is set to be a visual and emotional treat - as well as bringing this story to a new audience.
The hype around this movie is growing day by day and it is set to be one of the early movies not to miss in 2013.
Les Misérables is released 11th January
