Toughest Movie Heroines

Kristen Stewart delivered a version of Snow White that we had never seen before in Snow White and the Huntsman - which is released on DVD & Blu-Ray today.

We saw her take on evil in more of an action role for the well known character. So we took a look at some of the actresses that have delivered tough performances.

Kirsten Stewart’s Snow White is a courageous and enchanting film heroine who simply cannot be defeated.

Snow White shows a flare for tough talk and fighting during the epic battle scenes against The Dark army and battles to the death to win her kingdom back from the evil antagonist, Queen Ravenna.

- Halle Berry as Storm

Halle Berry’s dynamic representation of Storm aka Ororo Munroein in the X-Men series secured her the title of major action heroine.

Not only does she have the power to control the weather but she can also fly at high speeds making her a heroine that could definitely make your life hell.

- Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley

It is 30 years since Alien erupted on to our cinema screens and introduced us to Ellen Ripley - strong, tough and nearly invulnerable to alien drool.

'Every woman has a secret action heroine in her', said Weaver. Even in Alien 3, Ellen Ripley remains as cool and tough as ever.

- Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen

Jennifer Lawrence provided us with an insight into her athleticism playing Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games.

Embarking on a journey with only a bow and arrow to hand, Katniss proves that she is a heroine capable of holding her own.

Keira was memorably feisty in Disney’s ‘Pirates’ franchise. Playing the governor's daughter Elizabeth Swann, Keira showcased her skills in challenging sword battles and firing cannons.

Keria works her magic as her character manages to be equally comfortable in graceful gowns and dirty pirate outfits.

Tarantino is always placing super-cool, strong female characters on screen and Uma Thurman is no an exception in Kill Bill.

Even while paralyzed from the neck-down, Beatrix could destroy you and not think much about it!

- Hilary Swank as Maggie Fitzgerald

Hilary was certainly a knock out when she portrayed Maggie Fitzgerald, a boxer in the Clint Eastwood drama Million Dollar Baby.

The brave and authentic performance earned Swank another Oscar, an extra 20 pounds of muscle and an enviable right hook.

- Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander

It doesn’t get much darker than Rooney Mara’s portrayal of goth hacker, Lisbeth Salander, in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Tough as nails Lisbeth is definitely not the type of girl you would not want to meet down a dark alley. Proving you should never mess with a woman who will stop at nothing to right a serious wrong.
