Jennifer Lawrence

Every year there a handful of new stars that make the breakthrough grabbing out attention and making a name of themselves.

In 2011 no one has done that more than Jennifer Lawrence, who already has an Oscar nomination and a big budget blockbuster under her belt.

The twenty year old kicked off her career back in 2006 in TV with Company Town before going onto Medium and The Bill Engvall Show.

It wasn't long before the big screen came knocked as she went on to appear in The Poker House and The Burning Plain, a film which saw her star alongside Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger.

But it was last year's Winter's Bone and the role of Ree Dolly that saw her become one of the brightest young talents currently working in Hollywood.

Directed by Debra Grankik the movie follows an unflinching Ozark Mountain girl hacks through dangerous social terrain as she hunts down her drug-dealing father while trying to keep her family intact.

Lawrence's performance was given rave reviews from the critics and she went on to pick up a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her performance - losing out to Natalie Portman for Black Swan.

Winter's Bone was also one of the ten movies that was nominated for Best Picture.

This summer she left behind the independent drama for the summer blockbuster as she took on the role of Mystique in X-Men: First Class.

Matthew Vaughn was in the director's chair this time around as he took the story back to the sixties where Charles Xavier, Erik Lensherr, Mystique and others were fighting to understand their powers.

X-Men: First Class has been one of the movies of the summer as it topped the box office in both the U.S. and UK, as well as winning over the critics.

There is talk of a possible sequel but, at the moment, there are no plans in place.

She will return to the big screen early next year with Like Crazy but it is The Hunger Games that is a movie that many are looking forward to.

A big screen adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel Lawrence is set to take on the role of Katniss Everdeen in the Gary Ross directed movie.

The film will also star Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci and promises to be one of the most anticipated movie of early 2012.

So early in her career Lawrence has shown that she can confidently move from different genres and it seems that has a very exciting career ahead of her.
