Kevin Feige has revealed that Iron Man 3 will not follow Tony Stark's battle with alcohol.

Robert Downey Jr is set to return to the role of Iron Man for a third movie, filming on which is already  underway.

Alcholism is a big part of the character in the comic books but Feige says that they are not going down that path with this movie.

Speaking to Empire Feige said: "He's not an alcoholic in the movies. Maybe one day that's a deeper story, but we're not going to do it unless we can make it a full-focused plot."

"It's Tony's most personal journey since he was trapped in a cave in the first half of the first movie, but it'll also have the largest spectacle of any of the Iron Man movies."

It was 2010 that Downey Jr last starred in a standalone Iron Man movie but returned this summer for Avengers Assemble.

Jon Favreau has been in the director's chair for the first two Iron Man movies but he will not be back this time around and instead Shane Black is at the helm.

Iron Man 3 is set for a May 2013 release.
