Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth is set to see his star rocket this year as he takes on the role of Thor in the latest Marvel Comic book character to hit the big screen.

Trust me I have seen the movie it's great, he's great in it and I foresee a very successful franchise for all involved.

Thor marks the first big budget blockbuster role for the Australian as he joins forces with Oscar winners Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins in the Kenneth Branagh directed project.

Like so many Aussie actors before him Hemsworth kicked off his career in Aussie TV with Marshall Law and The Saddle Club.

But it was 2004 when he got his big television break landing the role of Kim Hyde in long running soap Home and Away.

He stayed with the show until 2007 when he began to forge a career for himself in movies.

We first saw him on the big screen back in 2009 when he played George Kirk at the beginning of J.J. Abrams' reboot of the Star Trek franchise.

A Perfect Getaway and Ca$h have since followed but it's Thor that is really going to set his career alight.

At the centre of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war.

Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans.

A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love.

It's while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Hemsworth is set to reprise the role of Thor in The Avengers, which began filming this week.

Directed by Joss Whedon the movie brings together many of the Marvel characters so Hemsworth is set to star alongside Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Samuel L.Jackson, Scarlett Johansson,

Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner - who does appear briefly as Hawkeye in Thor.

The actor has already completed work on Dan Bradley's Red Dawn, which also stars Josh Hutcherson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Cabin In The Woods is another movie that is due for release this year, a script that was penned by The Avenger director Joss Whedon.
