Jude Law’s character in 2006 film The Holiday has been voted the nation’s Hottest Film Father, coming head and shoulders above other film dads played by Will Smith, George Clooney and even Star Wars’ Darth Vader.
To mark Father’s Day 2010 LOVEFiLM asked over 1500 of its members to vote for their most desirable movie dads, with Law’s paternal portrayal as widower Graham in the Nancy Meyers rom-com earning him top brownie points and 16 per cent of votes.
Hot on Jude’s tail and just missing out on the top spot is Will Smith’s character Chris Gardner from The Pursuit of Happyness, which pulls in 14 per cent in the poll. Performing alongside his real-life son Jayden must have made things a little easier, but we’re willing to let the ‘Just the Two of Us’ singer off this time.
Storming into third place with a rather surprising entry is a dad who can arguably lay claim to the most famous fatherly bombshell in film history... Darth Vader.
Revealing that an air of mystery can also prove attractive, the caped Star Wars villain famously voiced by James Earl Jones managed to sway 13 per cent of the votes, giving a whole new meaning to ‘tall, dark stranger’.
Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor George Clooney takes fourth place in the list of desirable dads for his role in romantic comedy One Fine Day opposite Michelle Pfeiffer.
Widely regarded as the silver fox of the silver screen, Clooney’s portrayal of single parent Jack Taylor was enough to get the nation’s hearts-a-flutter, taking 11 percent of votes.
In fifth place is Irish lothario Liam Neeson as father-on-a-mission Bryan Mills in 2008’s Taken, who himself takes ten per cent of votes.
Following just behind with eight per cent is Gregory Peck’s Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mocking Bird, the oldest film to feature in the list, in sixth place.
Another silver haired star to make it into the top ten, Sean Connery pushes his paternal instincts to the limit in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as father of the famous thrill-seeking main character. Better known for wooing the ladies as James Bond, Connery proved that as a dad he’s still got it in seventh place (six per cent).
We’d like to say it’s not the end of the world that Bruce Willis didn’t make it higher in the list, but judging by his efforts in Armageddon, it could well be.
Playing the on-screen father of Liv Tyler, Willis’ performance as an oil driller tasked with saving the planet only rocked the world of five per cent of LOVEFiLM members.
Incredibly enough, Bob ‘Mr Incredible’ Parr from 2004’s The Incredibles only manages to power his way to ninth place (three per cent) in the list. Still impressive, however, seeing as he is the only animated character to feature in the hottest movie dads line up.
Bridging the gap between animation and live-action dads and taking tenth place in the poll is Patrick Dempsey from Disney’s Enchanted.
The heartthrob played opposite Amy Adams in the 2007 family film, but failed to get members animated enough - taking just two per cent of votes.
