Director: Nancy Meyers
Cast: Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, John Krasinski
Synopsis: Jane (Streep) is the mother of three grown kids, owns a thriving Santa Barbara bakery/restaurant and has—after a decade of divorce—an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, attorney Jake (Baldwin).
But when Jane and Jake find themselves out of town for their son’s college graduation, things start to get complicated. An innocent meal together turns into the unimaginable—an affair.
With Jake remarried to the much younger Agness (Lake Bell), Jane is now, of all things, the other woman.
Caught in the middle of their renewed romance is Adam (Martin), an architect hired to remodel Jane’s kitchen.
Healing from a divorce of his own, Adam starts to fall for Jane, but soon realizes he’s become part of a love triangle.
Critics: “This is a fantasy about a triumphant ex-wife desired all over again by her ex-husband. And for icing on the gâteau, she's admired by a second cute, successful, eligible man, too—played by Steve Martin, no less! This is the stuff of Santa Barbara book-group literature.” - Entertainment Weekly
“Cute and clever though the plot may be, everything is played out in the broadest possible terms without an iota of nuance or subtlety. “ - Variety
“In Meyers’s milquetoast hands, the way the scenario plays out isn’t so much tricky as treacly, with sporadic bursts of sitcom goofiness.” - Time Out New York
Award/Nominations: It’s Complicated was nominated for Best Comedy Film at the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards and at the Satellite Awards.
The stars of the film were also named Best Cast at the National Board of Review Awards.
