Over the last few years George Clooney has pushed passed his pretty boy looks and is now one of the most respected and versatile actors currently working in Hollywood.

As well as picking up a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his turn in Syriana and being nominated for Michael Clayton he has also moved behind the camera with Good Night and Good Luck finding huge success back in 2005.

He's back on the big screen this week, yes he voiced the central character in Fantastic Mr Fox but that doesn't count, as he teams up with Ewan McGregor  for The Men Who Stare At Goats.

The movie follows a reporter in Iraq might just have the story of a lifetime when he meets Lyn Cassady, a guy who claims to be a former member of the U.S. Army's First Earth Battalion, a unit that employs paranormal powers in their missions.

So to celebrate the release of the movie and to have George back on the big screen we put together an A-Z of the popular actor.

Anchorman. George’s father Nick, was an anchorman and aspiring politician.

Darfur. George is named one of Time Magazine’s ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’ for using his star status to illuminate the crisis in Darfur.
Elizabetta Canalis. George’s new Italian girlfriend who accompanied him to the premier of ‘The Men Who Stare at Goats’.
Friends. George had a cameo appearance on friends as a Doctor who goes on a double date with Monica and Rachel.
Grant Heslov. George’s pal is director of the new film he’s starring in: ‘The Men who Stare at Goats’. Previously, they co-wrote ‘Goodnight and Good Luck’.
Hollywood walk of fame. George’s hand and footprints are immortalised in cement here.
Injury. George and his ex-girlfriend were badly injured in a motorcycle accident in 2007.
Julia Roberts. George’s long-time friend starred in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind – his acting debut.
Kentucky. George was born in Lexington, Kentucky on 6th May 1961.
Lake Como, Italy. George has a villa here where he spends part of the year.
Men who Stare at Goats. Starring in this brilliant new comedy together with Ewan McGregor.
Northern Kentucky University. Attended from 1979 to 1981.
Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13. Starred in this trilogy along with friends Brad Pitt and Matt Damon.
Pet Pig named Max, who died at the age of 18 in 2006.
Quotes. George is famous for his tongue in cheek quotes and dry wit.
Renee Zellweger. George’s old friend who starred with him in Leatherheads.
Syriana. Won an Oscar for his performance. Was the first person in history to be nominated for directing and acting in a movie in the same year.
Talia Balsam. George’s ex-wife. They were married from 1989-1993.
United Nations. George was named a ‘Messenger of Peace’ by the UN in 2008.
Voted ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ by People Magazine in 1997 and again in 2006.
War and Peace. George’s favourite novel.
Xray. George was badly injured whilst filming ‘Syriana’, culminating in a series of operations to try and mend his ‘dura’ (the membrane around the spine).
