Gangster Squad is a movie that should have been released already but the movie was pushed back after the shooting in Aurora, Colorado last summer.
A particular scene had to be re-shot and now the movie is set to thrill movie fans this January as the gangster genre returns to the big screen.
The movie is an adaptation of the novel Tales from the Gangster Squad by Paul Lieberman and the screenplay has been penned by Will Beall.
Ruben Fleischer returns to the director’s chair for the movie for the first time since comedy 30 Minutes of Less in what is only his third feature film.
We have been talking about great ensemble cast lists all the way through out New Year Preview and Gangster Squad is another film that boasts an impressive line up.
Double Oscar winner Sean Penn leads the cast as gangster Mickey Cohen while Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi and Anthony Mackie are all also set to star.
Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and - if he has his way - every wire bet placed west of Chicago.
And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control.
It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart.
If you haven’t had chance to see the trailer yet then you really should check it our as it looks like director Fleischer has really brought LA in the forties and fifties to life.
A quality gangster movie doesn’t come round very often and it looks like Gangster Squad is going to be the movie to see in this genre in 2013.
