Diane Kruger shot to fame in 2004 when she starred in blockbuster picture Troy before going on to appear in the likes of National Treasure Goodbye Bafana.
This week she returns to the big screen in Anything For Her, Fred Cavayé feature length directorial debut.
But acting wasn't always on the cards for the German star as she pursued a career as a ballerina but an injury ended any chance she had of a dancing career.
Kruger turned her attention to modelling becoming a successful star in her native Germany. But it wasn't long before she developed an interest acting and began taking lessons.
She made her debut in 2002 alongside Dennis Hopper in television movie The Piano Player before appearing in Mon Idole later that same year, which was her first major role.
It didn't take long for Hollywood to come knocking as Kruger landed the roles of Lisa in Wicker Park alongside Josh Hartnett.
But it was her part as the most beautiful woman Helen of Troy in Wolfgang Petersen's blockbuster epic Troy. The movie brought together a great ensemble cast of Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana and Peter O'Toole.
Despite poor reviews at the time of the release it was a good box office success going on to gross over $497 at the global box office.
Troy may not have been the critical hit that was expected but the movie marked the arrival of Kruger on the international stage.
Up next for the actress was another high profile role as she starred alongside Nicolas Cage in Disney's National Treasure.
Again it was another mixed critical response but National Treasure to went on to a strong box office gross of over $347 million, and a sequel followed in 2007.
Over the last couple of years Kruger has worked on a string of low profile movies including Goodbye Bafana and Copying Beethoven.
But 2009 looks set to thrust her back into the spotlight with her new movie Anything For Her and Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, which competed for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
She has also provided the voice for Lascars and Inhale is due for release later this year and Mr Nobody is currently in post production.
Anything For Her is released 5th June.
