From the award-winning director Tony Krawitz (Jewboy) comes a story about a generation of buried secrets as Dead Europe is released on screen and available to download via Curzon On Demand, from 14 December 2012.
After the death of his father, Australian-born Isaac (Ewen Leslie - Jewboy, Sleeping Beauty) travels to Greece to scatter the ashes.
Upon visiting the village where his father was born, Isaac is warned of an old curse that hangs over the head of his family.
At first dismissing the claims as religious myth, Isaac continues his journey across Europe, from Paris to Budapest, discovering further clues about his heritage and meeting some of the desperate souls trying to survive along the way.
Around every corner Issac find himself chasing the shadows his family left behind including a young refugee played by Kodi Smit-McFee (Let Me In, The Road) in his stand-out performance as Josef.
Desperate to get hold of his brother Nico (Marton Csokas - Falcón, Lord of the Rings), Issac gradually pieces together dark truths to uncover the secret torment that forced his father to abscond all those years ago.
Dead Europe is a brooding interpretation of Christos Tsiolkas’ acclaimed novel is steeped in mystery and superstition, addressing disparate themes of religion, sexuality and politics in surprising and compelling ways. In many ways a study of a continent in decline, the figure of Europe itself hangs heavy over proceedings. As do the ghosts that inhabit it, both metaphorical and quite possibly real.
Dead Europe is available in select cinemas and via on Curzon On Demand from 14 December 2012
