After his little cameo role in Noel Clark's adulthood last year Danny Dyer has been pretty quiet of late. But all that changes this week as he returns to the big screen in City Rats.
Born in Canning Town the cheeky chappie kicked off his acting career back in 1993 at the age of fourteen when he landed the role of Martin Fletcher in Prime Suspect 3 alongside Helen Mirren.
He stayed with television as a series of roles came his way appearing in Cadfael, A Touch of Frost, and Soldier Soldier.
In 1999 he moved onto the big screen when he appeared in Human Traffic with John Simm, Lorraine Pilkington and Shaun Parkes.
It proved to be Dyer's breakthrough role and his career soared as he went to appear in Borstan Boy and Mean Machine.
But it was his collaborations with filmmaker Nick Cave that proved to be very successful for the young actor beginning in 2001 when they worked together on Godbye Charlie Bright.
Although it was met with a reasonable response from the critics it was their next two movies The Football Factory and The Business that were a success.
The Football Factory explores the world of football violence in England. Tommy (Danny Dyer) feels a rush and a sense of belonging from his hooliganism; his life is going nowhere, and drinking, girls, and soccer are the only bright spots.
But escalating threats and violence, along with a series of terrifying dreams, force him to begin reconsidering his path.
In 2007 Dyer became the presenter of a TV documentary series The Real Football Factories and The Real Football Factories International which followed his travels through the UK and abroad looking at real football hooliganism.
Dyer and Cave followed up The Football Factory with The Business set in 1980s England, Danny heads to the gangsters' paradise of Spain's Costa del Sol to make a delivery of cash to a noted ex-criminal, Charlie.
There, Danny meets Charlie's nefarious inner circle and soon becomes embroiled in their outrageous outlaw lifestyle.
But over the last couple of years movies such as The All Together, Straightheads and Outlaw have not been a critical or a commercial success and Dyer has had a string of television roles, appearing in the likes of Skins and Hotel Babylon.
But this year looks set to be a busy one for the British actor with 7 Lives, Doghouse and Jack Said all to be released.
But there are also rumours that he will be moving into Albert Square so we may be seeing a whole lot more of Danny Dyer.
City Rats is released 24th April
