The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has rewarded Colin Firth and The Social Network as the awards season really has got underway.
The 2011 Academy Awards are only ten weeks away and it’s time to place your bets on who is going to walk away with the big prizes.
The King’s Speech has already been tipped for great things during the awards season and Colin Firth, who did pick up an Oscar nod this year for his role in A Single Man, walked away with Best Actor for his role as King George VI.
The movie follows the King as she tries to overcome a stammer - with the help of Lionel Logue, played by Geoffrey Rush.
Edgar Ramirez was runner up for his performance in Carlos, a movie that was widely recognised at the awards.
Kim Hye-ja scooped Best Actress for her performance in Mother while newcomer Jennifer Lawrence was runner-ups.
The Social Network was named Best Picture and further increased it’s chances of picking up nominations at the Golden Globes and the Oscars, could it go on to win Best Picture in February.
The movie is directed by David Fincher and brings together a cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Andrew Garfield and Rooney Mara.
The hard hitting Carlos was runner up.
Niels Arestrup was recognised for his performance in A Prophet as he picked up Best Supporting Actress while Jacki Weaver won Best Supporting Actress for the highly praised Animal Kingdom.
Carlos filmmaker Olivier Assayas and David Fincher for The Social Network were tied for Best Director and Carlos went on to scoop Best Foreign Language Film.
Mother was runner up in Foreign Film and this could be a hard fought category when the Oscars roll around, bearing in mind that A Prophet has also done well with the critics this year.
Black Swan had bee tipped to win big in the weeks running up to the Oscars, as well as at the Oscars themselves, but Darren Aronofsky’s new movie only picked up one award and that was for Best Cinematography.
