Lincoln

Lincoln

Lincoln hits the big screen this week and is one of the standout biopic movies of 2013.

The Academy loves this genre of film and Lincoln is one of the major favourites for Oscar success next month.

To celebrate the release of the film we take a look at some of the movies in this genre that are not to be missed this year.

Hitchcock

Alfred Hitchcock is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and this February sees a movie about this film icon hit the big screen.

The film sees Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins take on the title role while Helen Mirren plays his wife Alma Reville.

This is not a life to death bio-pic instead it focuses on the love story between Hitchcock and Reville set during the making of Psycho.

The movie marks the feature film debut for director Sacha Gervasi who made his movie debut back in 2009 with documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil.

Scarlett Johansson is set to play Janet Leigh and Jessica Biel is Vera Miles while Toni Collette, Danny Huston and James D'Arcy are all set to star.

Rush

Rush is one of the movie that I am really looking forward to in this genre as Ron Howard returns to the director's chair.

Rush is a biography of Formula 1 champion driver Niki Lauda, played by Daniel Bruhl and follows his rivalry with James Hunt.

The movie will sees Chris Hemsworth return to the big screen as he is set to take on the role of Hunt.

The script is penned by Peter Morgan and is set in the 1976 Formula One season where both Lauda and Hunt are both battling it out for the world championship.

This is the first film for Howard since The Dilemma back in 2011 and it is great to see him back tackling drama - Rush looks set to be one of the most exciting films in this genre this year.

Diana

Another bio-pic to watch out for this year is Diana - which is based on the last two year of Princess Diana's life.

The movie sees Oscar nominee Naomi Watts take on the title role in what could be the biggest - and perhaps most controversial - role of her career.

Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel the movie follows Diana's campaign against land mines and her relationship with surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan.

Douglas Hodge, Geraldine James and Jonathan Kerrigan are all also on the cast list and this is set to be one of the most talked about movies of the year.

Lovelace

Amanda Seyfried has got a busy 2013 ahead of her and Lovelace is just one of the movies that we are going to be seeing her in this year.

Directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman the movie follows the story of Linda Lovelace - who went on to be one of the biggest names in porn.

Peter Sarsgaard takes on the role of Chuck Traynor while Sharon Stone and Robert Patrick play her parent Dorothy and John Boreman.

The movie has premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, which kicked off last week, and this is a film not to miss.

The Butler

Another interesting biopic movie that will hit the big screen this year is The Butler.

The movie is based on the life of Eugene Allen, a real life butler who has served eight Presidents in the White House.

Forest Whitaker will play Cecil Gaines while John Cusack Robin Williams and Alan Rickman will play Presidents Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan.

The film sees Lee Daniels back in the director's chair in what is only his fourth film as a director.

Lincoln

Lincoln marks the return to the director's chair for Steven Spielberg as he teams up with Daniel Day Lewis for the first time.

In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery.

With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Sally Field and Joseph Gordon Levitt who play Lincoln's wife Mary and son Robert.

David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, Hal Holbrook, and James Spader are all also on a very exciting cast list.

Lincoln is released 25th January.
