Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2

Ok so the blockbuster summer may be in full swing with the likes of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek already released and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Public Enemies on the horizon but it's time to look forward to 2010 and see what is on the horizon over the next twelve months.

And believe me there are some absolute corkers from the animation magic of Pixar and the long awaited Toy Story to the highly anticipated sequel Iron Man 2 as well as classics Robin Hood and Alice and Wonderland.

So FemaleFirst takes a look at some of the biggest and most exciting movies that will be hitting cinema screen in the next year.

Iron Man 2 looks se to be one of the biggest movies of 2010 as Robert Downey Jr reprises the role of Tony Stark, the role that really resurrected his career.

Jon Favreau is back on directing duties and while the plot is being kept under wraps the cast list is enough to get anyone excited.

Gwyneth Paltrow is back as Pepper Potts while Don Cheadle takes over the role as Rhodes. But joining the cast is Oscar nominated Mickey Rourke as Whiplash, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer and Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow.

Expect a May release.

Of course the summer bring s a string of big budget blockbusters and this looks like a trend that looks set to continue.

Sam Worthington has found major success this summer as he took on the role of Marcus Wright in Terminator Salvation and it will be more of the same for the Aussie actor as he stars in Clash of the Titans.

Joining a cast if Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Gemma Arterton Worthington takes on the role of Perseus in the remake of the 1981 fantasy classic.

Sticking closely to the original story Perseus battles both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda. It's set for a March release.

Another comic book character makes it to the big screen in August of next year in the form of Jonah Hex, and it's another impressive cast of Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, John Malkovich and Michael Fassbender.

Although the story line is being kept a secret and early premise is about a bounty hunter Jonah Hex (Brolin) in the late 19th century tracking down voodoo practitioner Quentin Turnbull (Malkovich), who plans to free the Confederate South with an army of the undead.

And despite computer game movies not finding much success at the box office in recent years that hasn't stopped Buena Vista Pictures throwing millions at The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Jake Gyllenhaal takes the lead role of Dastan and is supported by Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley.

Set in medieval Persia, the story of an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.

Which is why after the prince was tricked by a dying Vizier to unleash the Sands of Time that turns out to destroy a kingdom and transforms its populace into ferocious demons.

Sands of Time is released in May.

Angelina Jolie will return to the action blockbuster next year, after her Oscar nominated role in Changeling, with Salt.

The film follows CIA officer Evelyn Salt (Jolie) is accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy who is out to assassinate the president.

She must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence and prove that someone else is the traitor.

Jolie is joined by Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor and is directed by Phillip Noyce, the man behind The Quiet American.

It's hard to believe that it was back in 1995 that Pixar and the world of Toy Story was created as it broke new ground producing a movie that was completely CGI animation.

1999 was the last time that Buzz and Woody were on the big screen but fear not they will be returning in 2010, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen back on board to voice the popular toys.

but it's not good new for Woody, Buzz, and the rest of their toy-box friends as they are dumped in a day-care centre after their owner, Andy, departs for college.

Toy Story 3 is released July 2010.

Other movies to keep an eye on next year include Robin Hood, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Gulliver's Travels and The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
