When we go to the cinema we all enjoy a good laugh and there have been plenty to laugh at this year as high quality comedy movies have come thick and fast.
And there's another that's top of the U.S. box office this week and this is of course Vince Vaughn's latest offering Couples Retreat, which is released here in the UK at the end of the week.
So to celebrate the release of Couples Retreat we take a look back at some of the best comedy movies that have graced the big screen so far this year.
The big comedy surprise of 2009 came in the form of The Hangover that held itself well this summer against the big budget blockbusters, toppling Up from the top of the U.S. box office.
Two days before his wedding, Doug (Justin Bartha) drives to Las Vegas with his best buddies Phil and Stu (Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms) and his future brother-in-law Alan (Zach Galifianakis), for a blow-out bachelor party they vow they'll never forget.
But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can't remember a thing. Their luxury hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found.
With no clue about what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong in the hopes of finding Doug and getting him back to L.A. in time for his wedding.
The movie was a hug critical and commercial success as it grossed over $435 million at the global box office, easily making back it's modest $35 million budget. Off the back of the success of The Hangover there are rumours to be a sequel in the pipeline.
Despite the story all being nice and neatly tied up at the end of the first movie but that didn't stop Ben Still, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams and co returning for another bite of the Night At The Museum cherry.
Yes Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian hit cinemas back in May and, once again was a huge hit. With a new movie comes new characters and joining the cast list was funnyman Hank Azaria and Oscar nominated actress Amy Adams.
Night guard Larry Daley (Stiller), now a successful entrepreneur, returns to the Museum of Natural History to visit his friends, the exhibits that come to life at night, only to learn that they are being shipped off into deep storage at the Smithsonian Institution.
To make matters worse, the exhibits at the Smithsonian, including the pharaoh Kahmunrah (Azaria), are suddenly coming to life, and they aren’t at all happy about their new visitors. Determined to save his friends, Larry rushes to Washington, D.C., and makes his way into the inner workings of the largest museum complex in the world while Kahmunrah recruits the likes of Ivan the Terrible, Napoleon, and Al Capone.
Larry, meanwhile, finds himself with spunky Amelia Earhart (Amy Adams) as a co-conspirator and love interest, and General Custer (Bill Hader) leading the battle for the Smithsonian.
While it didn't gross as much as it's predecessor at the box office it still brought in a very healthy $411 million and it appears that director Shawn Levy would be interested in a third instalment to the franchise, you heard it here first folks.
This summer’s smash hit comedy The Proposal has become one of the most successful romantic comedies of the decade.
The Sandra Bullock vehicle reached $154 million in domestic ticket sales over the weekend, bypassing the total domestic tally for Sex and the City.
UK audiences flocked to the cinema for the opening of The Proposal in July making it her biggest UK opening ever (£3,233,422) and beating previous record holder ‘Two Weeks Notice’ (£2.6) by a stellar 25%.
In the US The Proposal is Sandra Bullock’s most successful film to date taking more than Speed ($121,248,145), A Time to Kill ($108,706,165) and the smash comedy Miss Congeniality ($106,807,667). The UK box office total currently stands at £9,246,438.
When high-powered book editor Margaret (Sandra Bullock) faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she’s actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds), who she’s tormented for years.
He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family (Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Betty White) and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another.
Borat is so 2006 darling it's now time for Bruno to have his time on the big screen in another outrageous comedy.
Austrian fashionista runs amok in America in his never-ending quest for "celebrity". In a bid to make it to the big time Bruno attempts to seduce a onetime presidential hopeful, adopts a black African baby and provokes a near riot at a caged boxing bout in Texas.
In it's short running time, only eighty three minutes, Bruno manages to offend just about everyone as Sacha Baron Cohen proves that he is the comedian that is willing to go just that one step further than everyone else.
It is one of the funniest movies that we have seen so far this year and you can't help but admire the guts this performer has to undertake the tricks and stunts that he does.
Other movies that have been tickling audiences the year include 17 Again, which saw Zac Efron move away from the all singing all dancing movies, Funny People and, most recently Zombieland.
Couples Retreat is released 14th October.
