Awake focuses on Clay (Hayden Christensen) who suffers from a heart condition and requires a heart transplant.The doctor who carries out the surgery previously saved Clay's life and they are now good friends.But during the operation Clay encounters anaesthetic awareness where his anaesthetic has failed leaving him conscious, aware and unable to alert the medical team.He is forced to endure intolerable pain and he retreats to the dark recesses of his mind in a bid to cope.But he only finds greater pain waiting for him.Meanwhile his young wife Sam (Jessica Alba) must make some life altering decisions whilst wrestling with her own personal issues.
