The critics got a sneak of the film last week and since then mixed reviews have been pouring in.
Some say that the film will change cinema and they way movies are filmed forever, while some have come up with the opposite conclusions.
With them reporting the story was missing something and way in which it was filmed will leave you feeling sick.
The film is narrated through the voice of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), an ex marine who lost his legs fighting for his country.
When his twin brother Tom dies he leaves behind not only a brother in mourning but a mission to the alien planet Pandora, and a ‘ridiculously’ expensive Avatar that has been specially wired to his nervous system.
With the same nervous system as Tom, Jake steps up to challenge and enters the world of Pandora.
Life in Pandora isn’t a breeze and with the lush forest and fascinating creatures life can be dangerous especially with the air being toxic, killing you within 4 minutes if you don’t wear a mask.
The planet is also home to the Na’vi a humanoid race that is physically and mentally stronger then humans. Standing 8ft with tails and blue skin the creatures live in harmony in their own world.
Valuable minerals which the humans want lie beneath the Na’vi land and it’s up to Jake to try and bargain with them and find out what it would take for them to move away from the land they love.
To do this he has to link up with his Avatar that is controlled by the human “driver” through a technology that links the driver’s mind to the Avatar body.
After getting split from the pack Jake finds himself rescued from the forests deadliest animals by a young Na’vi female, Neytiri, (Zoe Saldana) who he inevitable falls in love with.
Jake is torn between his new found love for the Avatar world or the human race which he belongs to.
Being 3 hours long its easy to realise people’s fears about it being long winded and drawn out for as long as possible.
However do not be put off as the minutes fly by and you end up not wanting the film to finish.
The world that James Cameron has built up is truly spectacular every detail has been looked into and it understandable why the movie took so long to make.
Some say the 300 million dollar budget was a waste and could have been put the better use. This is a fair comment the money could have been put towards helping a poverty stricken county.
But we are in Hollywood were films aren’t made on the cheap especially James Cameron films and after watching the film you can truly justify the budget.
This will no doubt seal him as one of the best directors and writers in the world of Hollywood.
The effects are truly breath taking and you can see the difference between normal 3D and the ‘Natural Vision’ that Cameron uses in the film.
The story is kept simple with the message of the film being clear to all. We live in a world that is consumed by money.
The Human Race will go to great lengths to get that money even if it means destroying peoples lives in the process.
Avatar is a must see film that will no doubt go on to win many awards, the film can be enjoyed by all age ranges with the love story appealing to the women of the world, whereas the men will be happy with spectacular action provided by Cameron.
With rumblings of two more sequels planned it will be interesting to see the response from the audience and see if the majority will want this to happen.
12 years in the making Avatar was well worth the wait, hopefully it wont be too long again till we enter the world of Pandora once more.
