Anne Hathaway in One Day

Anne Hathaway in One Day

Anne Hathaway is one of the most versatile actresses that is currently working in Hollywood as she has enjoyed success comedy roles whilst achieved acclaim for her more dramatic parts.

This week she is back on the big screen in One Day, an adaptation of the David Nicholls novel, in which she plays central character Emma.

To celebrate the release of the movie we take a look at some of the must see performances of Hathaway's career so far.

- The Princess Diaries

It was The Princess Diaries back in 2001, playing gawky teenager Mia Thermopolis, that really introduced the world to Hathaway.

Directed by Garry Marshall the movie saw the actress team up with Julie Andrews as Mia discovers a secret that has been kept from her.

She is in fact the granddaughter of the Queen of Genovia and is heir to the throne.

The movie spawned a sequel three years later and Hathaway was a talent to watch out for.

- Brokeback Mountain

In 2005 she swapped the light roles that she had been use to for something a little bit more hard-hitting as she was cast in Brokeback Mountain.

She played Lureen Newsome, who ended up being Jake Gyllenhaal's wife, in the Ang Lee directed movie.

The film is a story of a forbidden and secretive relationship between two cowboys and their lives over the years.

Brokeback Mountain was a critical and commercial success and went on to be nominated for a string of Oscars - missing out on Best Picture to Crash.

- The Devil Wears Prada

She returned to a more comedic role in 2006 when she starred alongside Meryl Streep in the big screen adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada.

The movie was based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger and saw Hathaway take on the role of Andy Sachs.

Andy comes to New York and scores a job as the assistant to one of the city's biggest magazine editors, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly.

The movie was the third biggest grossing movie of Hathaway's career as The Devil Wears Prada was a box office hit - and won over the critics.

- Rachel Getting Married

However it is Rachel Getting Married that remains Hathaway's triumph as she tackled this black comedy back in 2008.

She took on the role of Kym, has been in and out from rehab for the past 10 years returns home for the weekend for her sister's wedding.

It's a great central performance from Hathaway as she battles her demons - it's good to see her tackle something with more meat on it.

For this great turn Hathaway was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar.

- Love and Other Drugs

She returned to the big screen at the end of last year for Love and Other Drugs - which reunited her with Jake Gyllenhaal.

Directed by Ed Zwick the movie follows a woman suffering from Parkinson's befriends a drug rep working for Pfizer against 1990s Pittsburgh backdrop.

Both characters struggle to let people into their lives and it is a charming love story with Hathaway & Gyllenhaal both producing a very believable connection.

- One Day

After one day together -- July 15th, 1988, their college graduation -- Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew begin a friendship that will last a lifetime.

She is a working-class girl of principle and ambition who dreams of making the world a better place.
